im just finishing a 55 chevy sedan delivary. im starting on the flames today, i have ti have this guys car finished in time for the road agents rumble this weekend. usually i have no problem but this time im just not feelin it, so im looking for some insperation.. thanks dave
dave- these are done in candy flake- titainum flake- and cinimion tip base candy apple red over pagen gold. over under.. under over.. lots of masking these shouldve been painted on a kustom buick- Tuck
Here's one for ya Dave;Joe Palladino's 55 Chevy gasser.I don't know if you remember him or not but he and Ade Knyff ran the A and J Speed Shop in Malden MA back in the early 70's.Ade and Bernie Reigels used to campaign a digger(A and B Speed Shop). The flames were done by John Silva at his shop on Jefferson Ave,Skip Clement did the gold leaf on the quarters and I lettered the doors.Sorry for the lousy pic but I wasn't camera sufficient at the time.
Cool pic, are those speed lines/streaks behind the letters? Making them look like they are coming out at you?
Here are the flames on a later model caprice that I owned a couple of years back. All done in HOK pearls.
I think the flames on Bongies olds would be nice on a 55, but then again I'm partial to the seaweed style watson esque kind of flames. I dont have any pics but Im sure someone here has the, dare I say it, Old School Rods ( I refuse to spell it that way) magazine. Im amazed at the amount of shitty flame jobs I see on the road and especialy at the swap meets. I know its all subjective but damn I have good taste.
What I did was pick a vanishing point for the letters at about 11 o'clock and pull black lines off the letters for about 3 inches toward the v.p. Gave it a pretty neat 3-D effect. I didn't paint them in solid because he wanted the flames to be as visible as possible.
Hey Dave Here is our car- kinda chrome king-y but cool flames nevertheless.... Lenny painted it himself of course (if the pic doesnt show I screwed it up again. You can see it on the website)
i was kinda tired of the normal crab claw looking flames and so was the owner of the car, so i tried something on his roadster last year, they are kinda tribal looking .not really as good as some of the other ones but i really liked them.
There is one I just started laying out and will be shooting sometime in the next few days. Truth be I'm personally not super happy with the layout but everybody else who has seen the car and knows the final finished product plans likes it, so maybe I'm just being too picky. who knows.
