My Dad and I were discussing which is better...leaf springs or coils in the rear of a car? I'm sure there are pros and cons for each side but I'd like to hear what you guys have to say and why. Thanks.

I don't know much about this but I would figure it would depend on what the car is used for and what other work you wanna do. I would think coils would ride better but you need bracing to keep the axle in place. Leafs are pretty straight forward and can add bracing if you want but don't ride as good.

  3. A lot depends on how you use the springs,
no reason why flat springs should not work just as well as coiled,
it's only when the flat spring is used as the primary axle locator that the leaf spring falls down badly against coiled.
Or looking at it another way if you had two cars both with a four bar link,
and put one on coil springs, the other leaf springs via a drop link the two would behave very much the same.
A spring is a spring kind of thing.
