Or so I have heard this year was possibly the last year for the sherman/denison, tx Blast with the Past show.

The show has been a blast every year for me and my wife I hate to see it die like alot of other ones but I guess they all have to end sometime.

Which also goes for my KKOA membership to because this was the last KKOA show that was even semi close to me so It isn't worth it for me to keep subscribing to something I'm not even going to get any use out of.

I hope it would stay going because its always been a great show I thought.

I wonder is the KKOA dead?????

I checked what shows they had this year and it was very very few and they all are either way up north or extreme east and west. No more midwest southern shows anymore.

I met alot of the people I know now on this board at this show it used to bring a hell of a crowd. Tulsa bunch used to show up texans from all over and us arky's plus countless others to.

Hopefully new venues that are more familly oriented and reasonably priced that a poor man can take his familly to will pop up. Thats what I always liked about the kkoa shows. plus there were usually a couple shows with in 3 1/2 to 4 hours away from us that we could go to.

At least there is still jamies show and pistons and paint. Round up is to expensive for my blood or at least what I hear about it is. Maybe one of these days I'll get a chance to go to it.

Sorry about the rant back to your regularly scheduled programming........

I have not heard about the KKOA show but i sure its not true. I have really enjoyed that show. Will have to do some researchon this and check with one of our club members who is a KKOA member also. Maybe he knows someone who knows.

That was a good show...5 or 6 years ago. But now it's the same stuff I've seen every year over and over. Some of it is cool, but the cool stuff I usually see at the Roundup or PnP or Goodguys or some place else anyway. Then theres the crappy late models like the taurus/studebaker station wagon, the flat black Camaro with moons, or the '80's shitbox caprices with iron crosses and red wheels. As much as they try to keep the shop open to new-age customs, they do that much more to keep people who are there to see traditional customs away.

Thats why it may be the last one...

The show ( if you can call it a show) is the last weekend of Oct .at Loy Lake Park in Denison right off 75.The show used to be great about 5 or 6 years ago as was already pointed out ,but here in the last few years its gotten pretty shitty.Too many late model cars and people are tired of paying $10 to see that junk at what is suppose to be a custom car show.So now the people who were paying to get in and look said no thanks and quit coming. The problem is that the ones putting it on are trying to get all the entry fees they can ,so they dont care what cars get in as long as they have $35 .I think as a joke this year i am gunna preregister my wifes mini van ,just to see what say. They are so greedy for the 35 bucks they will proly go for it.Victom of there own game...

The last 2 years that I went they were supposed to send my dash plack and never got it. Last year a HAMBer that I know went to it rather than the Day of the Drags ?

Thats too bad.....dang there won't be any custom shows left by the time I get the Fleetline done. Looks like the Stray Kat 500 is my Mecca now.

I did not get to go to either one last year, but it that was a choice and is a choice again this year the drags are more fun and pleny of cars not dragging show up so you get a car show aspect also.

I also feel years ago it was worth going to, but it was never the old Ft. Smith.

I quit going because it was flat out boring for the money. Nobody else was going, instead of rock n roll they kept bringing in some new country wanta be super star girl that was loud and boring, and the vendors pretty much stopped showing up years ago.

Sad end to what should have been a good show.

PNP for example destroys most KKOA events, I never even really dug some the the big ones they did up north.

Thanks Tyler for posting the picture of the Lizard.

I almost tear'd up when I saw the picture. Kinda like Timmy
yelling for Lassie..... I was there when the accident happened and Austin had
never been the same for me.

You kan't blame Mcphail on the decline. Saturday night fell off after Lil Mike
stopped lighting shopping carts on fire and racing them down the parking lot.
And Monkey stopped moon'n people. Come to think about it, I hadn't seen
his ass in while. please don't post pictures because this is a good thing.

    Remember shopping cart races...

Remember the Bomb Fire and we were even on the news......

Rememeber the two fire trucks that showed up and the group picture......

Remember the six police cars that came to check out what was gong on and when they asked who was in charge.. Lil Mike said I am........

    Ahhhhhh Good times.

We should support Kustoms Kemps of America because it is the only true National Kustom Club still in existance. I'm telling ya, you have to be in
Salina next year. There was 740 plus Kustoms and Hot Rods from all over the country. You have all winter to save your money and get your hotel rooms booked to be part of this revived kustom movement. Hopefully some of this will filter out and other KKOA shows will pickup. All of the things that I
mentioned above were memories from guys not the cars. The secret to
having a good time at a KKOA event is talking to the members. There is a lot of kool history there and you'll never meet a nicer bunch of kats.

I'll be there in my late model wagon because my Merc is still under the knife. I'm not taking it too see if they are greedy enough to take my money I'll be there to support the cause. IThe reason that I'm still going I have a lot of kool friends in Texas and I will see some Kool Kustoms while I'm down there.
Winter is just around the corner...

Jamie's show and Pistons and Paint might hurt the Denison show a little bit.
There is a lot of Kool kustoms in the Dallas area that should be able to attend all three. I drive down to Jamies show almost ever year and turn around and go back next month. In a couple of years when my son graduates from High School I'll be able to make Pistons and Paint every year.

KKOA and Kustoms are alive and well. It will never be the most popular niche because it takes a certain type of person to like what we are into. Because we are the Stray Kats of the hobby, we will always be a little bit different then the rest and I like being the rebel of the hobby. Just don't get
discouraged by the numbers and limited magazine coverage. Thank God we have a hand full of mags that keep the ball rolling.

Do you have a subscription to Kustoms Illustrated? Why not??

Sorry to rant just want to keep the Kustom movement alive........

    See ya in Denison.

I sometimes tell people of the parking lot party with a midget riding a shopping cart that's full of bear cans, and on fire, being pulled around the lot with a mini bike. I'm not sure any of them have believed me.

    Ahhhh, good times.

The problem this event has with attendance by local spectators is PROMOTION! I live less than 10 miles from the park, and I usually hear about it AFTER it's done and I see it on the news or in the newspaper. Seriously- how much could a little advert in the paper every day for a week or two cost? I've just recently returned to the custom/rod/bike scene after a long time-just because the clubs or rodders know about an event doesn't mean Joe Public has heard about it. Want spectators? Get the word out! Want participants? Build some interest! There are LOTS of cool traditional rides within 100 miles that have probably never been entered in a show. Not everyone belongs to a club or is in contact with someone who is. If we don't know about an event, how can we show up? BTW, the only reason I made Jamie's show this year was because a friend told me about it and we made plans to get there. If not for him I would have seen the write-up in the paper again and missed it. OK-rant over.

Keeping an eye on the HAMB is a good start... it took me a while to get "plugged in" to what's going on in the area after I moved to TX. It wasn't until I stopped lurking once every few weeks and actually signed up on the HAMB that I really found more than the local Saturday afternoon cruise at Sonic where the host club gives each other trophies every month. Even at that, you almost need to make a quick DAILY check of the HAMB, cuz things move fast here.

Once you start making some acquaintances -- and even friends -- you'll never worry about the paper again. Most of our kind of shows are never announced in the paper... but then many of us don't read the paper. Come to think of it, many of us don't read at all! :D

I remember the old days to. I wish they would comeback. I still have the group pictures from the fire truck hanging on my wall in the house. Infact I have two pictures one with everyone just smiling at the camera and the next with big mark and several others including maybe monkey mooning the camera.

    Good times, Good times.

I'm still going to show up aslong as they have it because I like the show. I've been there every year except for the first one. And I'll be there till the end to. straykat is right it is more about the people that show up than the cars. It used to be only about the cars when I first started coming to the shows but now its more like a big familly reunion. Like a big kustom and hotrod familly.

Well If they don't believe you, I have the video to prove it.

We also got schooled earlier that day by your buddy P.A. on how you have to handle a lowered vehicle and you just can't go around a stalled car.:D

  23. Like Straykat says,I think us kustom lovers should support KKOA.Our club Kustom Kings of New Hampshire used to be a charter club for KKOA and we are trying to get everyone to join again in support. The members that made it to the Gettysburg show only saw about 200 cars-pretty sad,but we would like to help build up the numbers and keep it alive. It seems that there are more kustoms around now than the '80's but maybe theres so many more shows to draw them.

The thing that irks me about KKOA is that they never take any feedback and do anything with it.

I was a member for years and finally let it run out. If they truly want to do something about it, send out a survey and I guarantee people will fill it out. Then they will know where the shortfalls are. They need to fix these problem areas and then KKOA will grow.
