I am wanting to change things up a bit on my 51, I have some olds hubcaps, that I have added flippers to, like the Watson grapevine, I was flipping through my old mags from 58-60 and noticed pretty much every car has lake pipes, and in the book Kustom Land every car had them....I was thinking about added them!!! or do I just leave the car as is..its been exactly the same since 1999....I know its my car but I am just thinking out loud....what you think!!!

I added some pics of the car!!!

Although I don't run Lake Pipes on my Chevy, I have been considering them for a while now. Since a lot of the chrome has been shaved from your car, those pipes might just be the thing to set it off.

I'm gonna have to vote no on the lakes. The less stuff you bolt to the outside of a custom, the better.

If you are bored with your car, park it for six months and don't look at it. At the end of six months, you will remember just how bitchn it really is.

Stunning little Chevvie, by the way. -Abone.

That's a tough one. I really like how clean the car is now, they may be too much. But if you like lakes put em on...

  10. the chrome lakepipes will work well with your paint. make em functional and they would be even cooler. thats my 2 cents.

Personally, I love a good set of pipes, but I think they would be a distraction on that clean car.

I agree with a previous post. 1. Throw a car cover on that thing for the winter. 2. Uncover it in a few months. 3. Enjoy.

    Cool car.

That is a beautifull chevy, I would vote for lake pipes. I think it would really set it off, in my opinion some customs are too shaved it looks kinda plain. But its your car and it looks bitchen no matter what you do.

One of my favorite cars around hands down. That being said, I think some custom flipper caps similar to the Grapevine and some lakes would look great! They would really pop against that paint. Photoshop anyone??

john, your Chevy looks great....but we are always looking anyway, huh? Be it a woman or a car...we're always checking out the other ones....being that you don't have the chrome rocker mldgs maybe full length lakers or chrome side pipes would dress her up a bit...? mine are functional and my second set are worn out on the bottom...damn road is too high

Hey Randy, It's your car that got me thinking, When we were parked together at Winfields that day, I thought about putting the same ones you have! It was just a thought! ....Hey Randy when are you coming back to So-Cal?

  19. I think it needs some trim at least. Did GM make a trim for the rockers on those? I would rather see trim than lakes. If you decided to run lakes I think if you were to run the bottom of the pipes even with the bottom of the rocker so they would be on the side of the car instead of underneath. This would also give the appearence of a slightly shorter almost sectioned car.

Personally, I think your car is almost too classy for lakes. They may take it to a different level, more hot roddy. I removed mine because I wanted to go in the opposite direction. I wanted mine to be as classy as yours is now.

    Good luck with your decision.

Absolutely NO.I rather would think of adding side trim although that's NOT a must.Your Chevy is perfect the way it is.Especially the interior is a class of its own, very nice.I just would lower the rear a bit more if the car would be mine.

I think it needs something down there because it's just kind of plain Orange.
What it needs is a stock Chevy rocker molding trim to give it back that bit of sparkle that Chevy thought it needed in the first place.
Putting lakes pipes on it in that same location could be a slightly crude attempt to do what the body hugging trim does better.
I think cosmetic lakes pipes added along the outside of the rocker look good if they start with the pipe exiting a molded opening at the fender and ending at a precise location at the rear wheel opening or in the case of that Chevy, where the 1/4 panel bulge starts.
In other words, the same location Chevy put the stainless rocker molding.
Putting lakes pipes below the rocker molding on a car as short, and tall sided as a Chevy just makes the side of the car look that much taller, and makes the car look even shorter.
The only thing that does accomplish is making it look like it has less ground clearance, which it does.

I think you do need some "shiny" down there but a rocker molding would be better than the pipes.
Also, the tail lights could use a shiny chrome ring around the inside of the tunnel, about as big as the shiny headlight lamp hold down ring, right at the perimeter of the lens just to accent and finish the tail light. (Maybe it already has that, but I don't remember seeing it, and it's not evident in the pictures.)

Love your car and think the lakes would look great on their!

  26. no pipes.
but you could get away with the rocker trim.
i'm thinking about ditching my pipes in favor of the trim.

I'd do it...I love the way they look and they sound pretty rad too! Can't go wrong with form and function. I've never understood the fake ones...
