I am claiming ignorance on this one..I have become intrigued on when or where did the inner fenderwell upholstery start.. I am have seen this on several Kustoms and really like the look it seems to really finish off a kind of bland area of the car.I did a search and cant seem to find anything on the history of this... here are some examples i found..
its just for the show and pops out with snaps, it highlites the inner fender well something that is over looked in todays. The Merc you pitchered is the most detailed Merc ever built. and its driven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe slightly OT, but ... The wheelwells of the Ferrambo Rambler transition absolutely seamlessly (in all directions!) for some of the cleanest, most impressive detailing I have ever seen! I have not seen pictures that can do it justice.
I took a different line and fitted louvered aluminium panels in the fenderwells of my 50 ford as it is ugly in there, also the panels cover the ends of the lakes-pipes to keep people guessing.
Back in the "old days", many show cars were driven to and from the shows, and not always in good weather. Upholstered inserts for the fender wells were a quick way to prep the car for show by covering up the dirt and road grunge in the fender wells.
