There is shock fluid for the old Ford shocks. I don't know what comprises it. It is available at Sacramento Vintage Ford (916) 853-2244

The old Chevy knee action shocks will work great on regulator hydraulic jack oil, at least they do on mine.

Apple Hydraulics uses and recommends SAE 15 hydraulic jack oil.

Motorcycle fork oil can also be used, which comes in a variety of viscosity grades to adjust the action.

Don't top off the reservoir, leave about 1/4" space for heat expansion and extreme travel.

I used thin hydraulic oil first. Too soft. Then I put in some heavy gear oil. Betterer.

    Mine aren't Ford shocks though.
