Just wanted to know the warning signs. What do you look for before final assembly. What do you look for before hitting the road.
If you are building a car from pieces, just assume the old kingpins and bushings are shot, buy new ones and install them. No point in wasting time replacing something later when it can be done up front and be road ready on assembly.
hah wood 470 nailed it, they wiggle on my '51 Ford, jacked up you'd get a few degrees of play at 12 and 6, and you could see the slop in the kingpin moving. The alignment guy told me I needed new control arm bushings. Nice try! So I rebuilt the front end and learned to do my own alignment, but that's another story
Control arm bushings... he knows what he's doing, lol. Another sign even with the car is on the ground is a trail of rust between the joints, meaning the bushing has probably been rubbed through. Bob
