I'm in the process of rewiring a '53 Chevy 3100 (badly needed) and want to install the key in the dash but it has a keyed column that I'd like to change- but later. Can I somehow disable the keyed column lock until I'm ready to change that? It needs new wiring way more than the column~ Just disable the column lock?

  2. Yes you can. If it's a GM column just remove the steering wheel then a snap ring and take out the Lock Ring and reinstall the other parts. You'll know what it is by the lock pin and multiple notches in it.
