Those sure are different, never seen them before, kinda have mixed emotions on them but they match the louvers nicely.

He comes to our cruise nights, I'll ask him about the lights.

    Hello,

Nostalgia plays havoc with the brain. (our Willys had a similar set up,primer, 671 SBC, black rims, black tow bar, etc, but with a split grille) When I was taking photos of the primered 41 Willys coupe with the big 671 SBC ready to install sitting behind it at the Price Transfer Museum, there was a cool 2 door brown Willys sedan in the space nearby. It was set up with 5 slot Halibrand style wheels with knock off spinners, a deep dark brown paint, a lowered stance, and louvers in the hood. The louvers were done nicely and were not overbearing. It was a nice look. A pure 50’s-60’s hot rod.

Having been in a 56 Chevy with louvers, (+40 Ford with hood louvers) the hood is the perfect place as it allows the engine heat to escape rapidly. On the other hand, it is perfect for debris and sand to blow into the louver vents. (Especially in the rainy/snowy season, or at the windy beach days) With individual chrome carb covers, it should not be a problem, but one never knows. It will depend on what filters are on top for protection.

  10. Mostly had to do with air to the carbs. Especially if the throat on the carb(s) was close to the underside of the hood. The louvers didn't face forward as most vintage carbs with air rammed to them would blow the fuel out of the bowls. Ever notice vintage drag cars with tin shields over a row of carbs?

Funny you mention the air down the carbs blowing fuel out. I have no hood and my frog mouth scoops face forward similar to Grabowski's T scoops. and perhaps the wind plays with fuel distribution and I only say this because some times I smell raw fuel when I'm driving but that could also be for other reasons as well. Yes I have also recollection of seeing shrouds over the carbs. Thanks for that explanation Dean.

I just wanted to do something a little different, I had not seen it done on any other car before. I had not seen that track nose car before but I like it a lot. Thanks for posting.

  13. A single row over carbs was done a lot on circle track cars in the 40' and 50's.

Sorta close :(...and the bottom one has similarities to Chevrolet of your Coupes year But it has an extra louver...it has a fender mounted spare and almost looks like a truck. I was thinking Fire truck but I'm stumped I'm surprised nobody else has got it ...its usually figured out as I'm still typing...:D

  26. i would not have been able to identify the cars if i had not taken the photo.
i posted them as an example of something "different". both styles would look good on a hot rod.:)

Still stumped with the 4 horizontals...Dodge six in 34 has 4 but car is too swoopy and the lengths are different.

Thanks 33....I did a very exhaustive search for a match and yes I know of the Franklin but it never crossed my mind last night.

It does however just highlight just how many car companies existed back then...lots.
