Walking around one of my local junkyards, spotted a car from a distance,1961 buick invicta 4 door, just towed it in from a local guys yard that passed away, under the hood a running 401 nailhead, air conditioning, power steering, crane ignition, demon carb, griffin aluminum radiator, reciepts in the glovebox read a local garage pulled the heads last year and had them redone, new timing chain and gaskets, still had gold oil in it!!,,the best part is i am restoring a 64 chevelle for the owner of the yard so she gave me the engine, trans, radiator and all the parts i wanted in trade for taking 500.00 off labor on her car,,now i have somewhere for my 6 stromberg 97's to go!!:d
Oh!,the reason it was parked is the trans blew,i swear that cast iron thing was just as heavy as the engine!,anyone need a anchor for there boat?
I got one just like it. It has the same boat anchor transmission. Mine will end up with a 5 speed just like the Nailhead in my 33 Chevrolet.
YEAH! I bought one from a junk yard... It was thoroughly in need of a rebuild but I did get the finned drums as well!
tree'd me. I just scored a set of PERFECT 45-finned drums from a '65 4dr HT in my local yard. Had a 430 engine in it. dammit. Drums were $21.40 total, and they came off so easily it took me longer to pull my wagon back there and jack the car up that it took to get the drums off. -Brad
My advice is to get an adapter for a modern GM tranny (700R4) rather than go with a standard. Nailheads are externally balanced. I found out the hard way there is more to it than getting an adapter, flywheel, clutch etc to put a standard tranny behind a nailhead.
