Jim Lytle's "Quad Al" four-engine Allison Dragster

If you want to see Allison's run, watch NTPA tractor pulling on TV.
They only have 2 and 3 engine tractors right now.
They don't usually do too well against the automotive engine powered tractors.
Probably because they only run one turbo.

 

Guffey -- Thanks for posting the photo of "Quad Al" on the thread. Do you still own that monster? If so, are you planning to show it at any events this summer? If not, would it be possible to visit your shop and take a few photos sometime? Would love to see this beast in person!

Wondering if he has ever showed off the Quad Al at the Great Lakes Dragaway in southeastern WI which is only about 2 hours drive from where I live. Has anyone else seen this beast recently?

 

I know it's not HAMB friendly, but I would like to see that unfinished VW/Allison.

 

Jim told me a year or so before he died that it was difficult to find an engine that he could afford for the recreation or clone of the "Big Al" car. I do not think that clone was finished. I saw it at Indy years ago and it was just the frame and engine. The original "Big Al" is in the Garlits Museum.

 

I saw the original "Big Al" '34 run at the Irwindale drags (or Colton?)
sometime last century. It was funny to watch, as it left the line fishtailing and smoking the tires like crazy, but with the engine turning maybe 2000 RPM.

 

the quad al is on display for a few months at the Monster Truck museum in Butler Indiana off I69 and US route 6 International monster truck hall of fame I think
