It seems that the high end classic cars get restored with a porcelain coating on the exhaust manifolds. Can anyone confirm this and suggest where those rich guys send these parts to get it done. Jett Hott and HPC don't have the color or finish I want and I think this might be the ticket. . .I am imagining an antique stove kind of look.
All those high end cars use Jet Hot and HPC for coatings for their headers. However, www.customceramic.com might offer what you want. --Matt
Over here they call it vitreous enamel, i'll do a search & see what comes up! There is a company in the north of the UK that specialise's in it & they also do vintage cookers too, a friend of mine has an O'keefe thats being done right now.
You are correct. It IS the stuff on your stove. It's powdered glass melted onto and hopefully into the surface of the iron at around 1400 degrees . (I think it would warp the hell out of thin sheet metal) I was just reading that Le Crueset enameled cast iron cookware has a 101 year guarantee! I'll stick to my Wagner cast Iron though. It's served well me for several decades.
I had the cast iron headers porcelinized on my 292 six. Looks great! Should last forever, too. I wanted the look of the high end cars of the 30's. Can't remember who I used, but I think there are only a couple places doing it in the US. Try Prairie Auto Porcelain. 507-645-5325. Relatively inexpensive..mine cost 150$ for the 2 manifolds.
