I've noticed that there's alot of people on the HAMB building Roadsters / Coupes..Dose it seem more than ever??? Is it a natural transition after you build a Custom people tend to build a Hot Rod?? I know this is what happen to me and Just wanted to now if this is what alot of people are doing... Whos Building one??? Lets see your PIX of your project.... Evel
I think a hot rod is a little cheaper than a custom. You can get one going quicker and easier than you can a later model car, something in the 50's or 60's.
Does it count if I *wish* I was building a hot rod? (Oh yes, I WILL build one when the 52 is "done"! ) I drive past an A coupe every day on my way to work. I think I build an A coupe in my head (usually full-fendered) at least 2 or 3 times a week.
Yes.. I am actually in the parts collection phase of it. I would would say I am 75% there, hopefully start building this winter..
The project that will not die... Heading back to my parent's house in a couple weeks to work on it some more. At this rate, it will be done sometime in 2013, which incidently is when my subscription to HOT ROD runs out. Go figure... So far this is my second motor and trans. As soon as the column is in, popular opinion suggests it's going to handle like shit. MORAL: If you are trying to "de-street rod" a car that wasn't built right to begin with, spend the money and start with a fresh chassis...
Mine is what I'd call kind of close, I have not been around much in the past month but hope to make some progress soon...
Evel Hot Rods ARE gay. That is why I like building Hott Rodzz 'cause they're much cooler. I've been sick all week. This is all I have to show.
The rougher body panels are living at the metal mans house, they don't need alot of work but more an experienced metal massage. Today I hope to get the steering box cut up and mocked in.
YES, I'm building another Beast.....made myself a frame jig, mounted the body, welded a bunch of steel inside of it....replaced the bottom of the body....and just chopped it 4 1/8"....in 2 weekends.
You guys have some fantastic projects. This bucket is almost here from FL, can't wait to get my hands on it. If this pic was any bigger it would SCARE you! And YES a hot rod is next!
First I build my custom then another one for me. That we lead the old lady to belive is hers. Then a hot rod.
Do trucks count? I built a (mild - very mild) custom first because it was the right price at the right time. That and the fact that Hot-Rod parts are pretty expensive compared to custom parts. For the most part I found that customs can be built with parts of other (sometimes junk) cars when what you have is broke, rusty, or just won't work anymore. With a Hot-Rod it's part-x or nothing. Like if your duece's grill (or frame or ....) is fucked up - you are going to get bit for a new one or wait it out until you find or can afford one at a swap. If your Olds custom has a fucked up grill (or..) and you are driving around and see some other 50's car with a tree laying over it - you can pluck the grill (etc.) off of the derelict car, take 'em home and customize your "new" parts to fit on your car. I love customs. On one hand you have to have some pretty sharp skills to make a really well built finished custom. On the other they are a good way to enter the hobby and get started. I guess that's the way I see it anyway. There is no way in hell I could built a really good custom. There is just too much more to learn. But what I have learned will definately be able to build a good Hot-Rod (P.U.). After I am done and I have either a)sold my Hot-Rod or b)have the money to build a second car I will go back to customs. Hot-Rods are a visceral experience. They affect you in a physiological way. Customs are like art. They allow you to be expressive. And if it hauls ass - that's just a bonus, but it isn't really about that with a custom. It's about the design and how to make something from metal and paint. I almost can't wait until I can get back to building one now..... Guess I'll just have to settle for my Hot-Rod, lol (JJ).
My '30, hasnt changed much since this pic was taken. Rebuilt and cleaned up front end and today I drilled the visor.
I'm still trying to get all my parts in one place... frame body engine or there abouts... of course I'm thinking of making it a drifter...
I sold my shoebox to get money for a truck. I've always wanted a truck and figured it should be my hot rod too. More fun this weekend depending on the weather. I just recently posted these pics, but what the heck. Mike
