So many cars I see that are "red" appear orange in the sun. I call this "resale red". What's a good red to use (prob with a blue base so it's not orange)? For lack of a better word, and at the risk of sounding like a layperson....."cherry red"

Not Ohio State Red. It is definitely too yellow.
More BLUE is always a good thing.

Straight red pigment will be the redest!!! But for a matallic red, I really dig the Dodge Inferno Red.

To me ,torch red, has a touch of orange, that's why I like it. I used it on my 35 Ford.

I used a late 80's GM Red from the duallys. Didn't look good on the trucks, but liked
it on my 57. Didn;t look Orange at all.

Torch Red does take on an orange hue under certain conditions like street lights at night. In direct sunlight its nice and red.

If the Guards red is too orange, my second vote would be for Mazda "Velocity Red"

I think it's the truest and brightest red out there!

Just remember that Red pigments are the most expensive, so be prepared for sticker shock when you price a REAL RED....

That Duece looks good....could be right but hard to tell from the picture. The color I try to stay away from is usually found on '59 Chevys that have been over-restored, with overly perfect-everything.

Yeah no kidding. The red's are the worst. Maybe I'll do mine white and call it Moby Dick.

I think that Mazda red is the sweetest red yet. I gotta get over it being a Mazda color. I guess as long as the color is good

Disclaimer: My daily OT driver was an '01 B3000 that just got creamed for good, so I have no problems with Mazda.

Victory red is a very bright true red . Im using it on the engine and trans in my 32' - And it can be bought pretty cheap if you shop around . Lots of paint companies offer it in kits Single stage kits for around a 100 bucks ... Base / Clear obviously a lil more. Depending on what type of clear you wanna use.. - Mayor

Newer VW's have a nice red on them. I think it would look good on a hot rod.

Porsche guards red IS the king, painted a '34 and a '32 with it. however, Toyota '84-ish MR2 "super red" is also quite bright: my wheels here in "super red"

I painted my 53 with Guards Red and love the color. Please excuse the painted grille and bumpers, I did that when it was cool to do so.

Check the new Fiats. they have a really good red too. Rossa Corsa. I painted a TON of the samples in the dealership, and I put it up there with the Porsche and alfa as being the better reds IMHO
