hey all,I'm looking for some ideas on paint schemes for my 32.I was thinking about cream/beige scallops on the front of the body(from the firewall back).Maybe you folks can suggest something else,I'd like to do something a little different, but not too different. The first pic is how it is at present and the second pic is the wheel/tyre combo I should have on it in a week or so.(note the windscreen is now laid back 2")

    thanks

  2. Interesting door hinges and windshield stanchion.
As well as the belt line - or as some call it, the beauty line.
Just some of the differences between the USA cars and the Oz cars I would imagine.

No suggestions on scallops, but I'm wondering what size your front tire/wheel combo in the first photo is?
Wondering too, how wide is the front fender?

Reason I ask is, I'm planning to put some fenders on the front of my 31 and so far the 6 1/2" width ones look right for the tires I have.

Can't tell if you're running disc brakes or not, if so, do you have some photos that would show the fender brackets?
I have a fair idea of what I want to do, but am not above copying a good idea.

Tipping the windshield back added considerably to the good looks of the car.
It was pretty good looking to start with.... [IMG]

I didn't really care much for the first pic, but those 2 changes made a HUGE difference for me. You're keeping the red right? Just adding scallops or something? I'm not sure you need anything but some striping at this point. It looks great!

C9,wheels are 14x6 with 7.5"wide tyre on the front, rear are 15x8 with 9" wide tyre.I have discs and could take a pic of the set-up if you want.
The body-line and windscreen posts are different cos this car was in fact a sport coupe that was cut down in the 60's,the door hinges are of an english Morris bootlid.
Django, yes keeping the red I just want to break it up a little, going to get some pinstriping done on the rear bootlid area. Also thought about painting the wheels in cream/beige to match and scallops etc...not sure on that one but.

Since I didn't chime in when you introduced yourself I will do so now. Welcome to the HAMB. Good to have another Aussie, even if you are MILES away!
Love the roadster, the improvements you have made look good.
Can't say much about the scallops, personally I'd just go with some nice Black/WHite Tommy the greek style striping.Having said that I don't have paint on my car at all!

Do you know who owned your car back in the day? I have many old rod mags and would like to try and look it up.

    Later!

  6. Here you go mate. I'm a big fan of scallops ever since I first saw Geoff Rea's (Whodaky) coupe. It's a bit difficult with a car that's not running a hood as the top of the cowl area always looks a bit funny, so you'll have to decide what to do in that respect.

I tried to mask these around the door hinges so that you wouldn't have to mask over them, although you will have to paint the bottom one. Some red pinstriping sets them off nicely I think.

In regards to the wheels, I believe if you're going to run whitewalls, then the wheel should be a dark colour, and vice versa, if you're going to run light coloured wheels, you should run blackwalls, but that's just my opinion.

    Anyway, here she is...

NO scallops!!! Stick with the solid color/pinstripe combo and loose the fenders.

The car is the old Buhagier roadster. It was on the cover of Australian Hot Rodding Review from memory. I'm sure Al will dig up the old pics (I hope he does anyway). It's been through some tough times, but I'm sure the new owner will do the right thing (won't you Al). [IMG]

Oz cars must be way different than US models..........or it started out as something else. The body was way different than a US model 1932 Ford Roadster.

    Neat conversion........whatever is was.

Looks like a lot of FUN !

    Here's mine......with fenders.......and a SBC.

from memory I don't think rare 32's hot rod is actually a roadster body, maybe a sport coupe or cabriolet originally. Australian '32 roadsters are the the same outwardly as the US roadsters, apart from the area around the back of the passenger compartment area. Also our '32 roadsters never had a complete inner skin on the doors as well as numerous other differing structural features

Whodaky and Deuce roadster, the car was a sport coupe, they cut the top of the doors off above the accent line and fabricated some 'roadster' screen posts.
here are a couple of pics.this is from 66

Tommy, that looks awsome!..you may have inspired me.I think it'll be more like the edit that Brootal did, from the firewall back.
Brootal could be right about wheel colour though, maybe I'll paint them the red body colour.
I'm also hoping to do a polished firewall plate..anyone know what the best material to use is?

  15. looking good, How many inches is the body channelled now? It was Originally channelled 8 or 9 inches wasn't it?

    Like the tyre combo. [IMG]

The best part it has survived and is still channelled unlike some other OZ rods. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The front tires are 7.5" wide in cross-section?
    Or tread width?
    I'm guessing the latter.

If shooting a photo of the brackets isn't too much trouble, I'd like to see them.
Especially so the front wheel rear bracket and how it mount/bolts to the caliper bracket or spindle flange.
I'm liking as well the polished and exposed rounded head bolts exposed through the fender.
Nice touch and a little more old-fashioned than tack welding the fender to the bracket.

    I really like Brootal's scallops.
Without a hood he doesn't have much room to work with.
Tommy's scallops on his 32 are outstanding.

Muttley, the Oz guys have to run fenders by law so he has no choice.

You do have a point on the pinstripes though.

Why not stripe the decklid, run it that way for a while and when you get a bit tired of that, then do the scallops?

A few changes here and there will keep the troops interested as well as making it interesting for yourself.

I find tinkering with and making small changes in the car over a period of time the most fun of all. [IMG]

Thank you, but I must give credit to an annonanous HAMBer who photoshopped this. I asked the same questions here on the HAMB and this is one of the designs that I got.

I did transfer the design to 1:1, squirt the orange peel and pinstripe it [IMG]

You can get some great ideas here. I hope you find something that lights your fire.

C9, tyre width is 7.5" tread width(or 195mm for the Aussie folks, metric system)I'll take a pic and send it to you in the next day or 2
Django...I really like the photoshop you did, thats a great idea with the charcoal wheels and scallop.Did you do the photo editing?
If so,how did you change the colour and keep the body lines, hinges and stuff?

For what it's worth, I like it as-is now. The wheels and tires make a big difference.

What color is the firewall? If it is red, I would suggest simply painting the firewall white or off-white to break up the red scheme.

Did it always have four-bars up front? I can't tell from the old photos. I see four-bars and think "new".

That has certainly seen some changes over the years.

haring, the firewall is red,but I'm thinking of making a new polished plate for it(it has been smoothed/flattened).
Yes the 4-bar set-up was done by someone a few years back, apparently the front end was a 48 Merc?? but it drove really poorly,so he updated it to a dropped I-beam and 4-bar.At least he didn't put an IFS in it!
Most of the changes were done by the previous owner to me,he bought it in 91 and it still looked like it was in 66.But it was in poor condition so he 'updated' a few things, mainly to make it a better car to drive.
