Hubcap cables. Fasten them to the lugnut so that if the hubcap comes off it won't go anywhere. Duh, I'm a moron.

But wouldn't it beat the hell out of everything if it did come loose? I had a cad cap come off and oscillate around in the rear wheelwell one time...the skirt was holding it in...made a hell of a mess.

wow, that's one i knew too...didn't check this post in time i suppose. when i used to be a tire jockey, sometimes you'd still see those in use...wheels and tires sure have come a long way.

  15. I'm confused. Which part of the hubcap did they attach to?

I'm only 36, so forgive me. [IMG]

The open end part went through the hole where the valve stem is
then you put the lug nut on that and the washer end stayed on the outside over the vavle stem. Foolproof, but if the hubcap came off while driving it would beat the hell out of things. Small price to pay to foil hub cap thieves.
That was a big problem back then. On the four bar lancers we used to solder razor blades on the back side of the bars to keep the thieves from stealing them. Lots of blood but it worked.

i like the razor blade idea better... That way, if a cap flys off at high speeds, YOUR car isn't the one to get the thrashing..... hahaha...

I still can't picture how they work. Anyone have a picture of one being used?

and couldn't you steal the hubcap anyway with just a tire iron? [IMG]

  23. Aaaah... OK. I kinda figured it out from the explanation, but that makes sense now. From just looking at them you would assume that the "washer" end was the bit that went on the lug nut, but thinking about it, that wouldn't work.

    Cheers. [IMG]

I'll stick to my screw on Moon discs.
