The shackles are ok, the spring is too long. It still looks bitchin'. Sometimes cars are better when they have that rough edge. I have a feeling Tuck will come up with a cool shackle by next summer. A subtle chop would be kinda neat, 2" in front and 1" in the back. Whatever you do Tuck it will be cool.
I've been holding back because it looked like you had no real interest in chopping it and I didn't want to tell you how to build your car - just wanted to see it on the road without "Project Tuck" taking it over. But I agree with Bob. That car would look great with that stance... but hammered to death.
Totally different car but I have a little book at home with a picture of a '36. Grille has been filled in with sheet metal. Headlights are gone, still has the wide fives, still riding at pretty much stock height, but it has numbers painted on and the roof has been stomped. It looks cool as hell. It's a godamn hot rod with no thought put into "This will make 'em know it isn't glass, or everyone is doing this so I'll be different. And least of all, "Oh, this is an original steel car, I'd better not touch it." Absolutely your car man, but I wish I could find that picture.
To address the shackles... I think they're 'NEAT'... and its the way it came from the field so they rule while they're on there... but... I really just want to get it on the road- Since I bought it I've had this plan to get a stock frame and put a 39 rear in it with a transverse leaf. I've acquired the 39 rear- and maybe the frame... I was going to chop it before the pileup but theres so much to do I just wana get there and have fun driving it... then I can chop it in mid winter when I'm freaking out and asking myself why the HELL I live here in Northern Minnesota where it gets down to -30 FAHRENHEIT... Right now I think it looks alright unchopped- and everything kinda just fits... the goofy shackles, wide fives up front, all of it- Sometimes cars have a way of becoming HUGE projects... and this was not meant to be huge... just a Rocky33 type build, nothing serious at all- its just meant to be FUN. but honestly, I can't wait to chop it. I was dieing to the first week it was in here... but better judgment told me to hold off and get the vitals done first... Engine, pedals, linkage, gas tank, brakes, wheel base and that front end, so many things fixed from when it looked like THIS:
Tuck, Your new ride will be the a big hit at the Pileup ! Came out real neat. My vote - don't chop her. 41 Dave
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I wouldn't chop it, at least not yet. Maybe with all the glass cars out there I've reached a "saturation point" but that car is a refreshing change. I'd live with it for a while, there's no hurry to chop it, drive it a while the way it is, it may grow on you, and it's a new car so you know it'll be fun, then when it starts to get old, chop it and it'll be a new car again.
oh YES Root... it is. I will build it nice, finished and paint it glossy black like 3WLarrys evil twin... I will never sell this car. I think part of the fun of it being a beater is the fact that its a 34 ford... and a beater... I need to pick my battles wisely- Heres a couple I really dig-
Tuck...no chop. BTW the shackels aren't to much older than 1970. I had a 1955 chevy in high school, 1966, with longer shackels. Everybody who was anybody had longer shackels to "jack-up" the rearend. Hey Tuck your an anybody DeuceDog
"The front end of this, this thing you're driving looks a little low." "Uh, no sir, it's been checked several times you can check it if you'd like?" sorry, you mentioned Milner stance, somebody had to say it Lookin damn good!
you know what i like about that rod....it's DIFFERENT! i know it's all relative but like was said...... i like 'em chopped or unchopped......i like that car the way it is..... good work, man...... btw, seeing that pic in the sun of you 34....makes the 34 you guys are dogging me about look like a heap......your 34 looks SOLID as a rock!
dude youve been bustin some serious fuckin ass!!!!!! you should have called i would have come over and gave you a hand . and as far as the shackels there perfect for the car. takin the shackels off that car would be llike steeling a chicken wing from a fat lady.......and thats just not right!
These guys are right, SMUSH IT or leave it be.. cant wait to see it at the pileup.. HEya tijuanaj , You coming to the pileup?
Milner picks up girls, that coupe will pick up WOMEN.... who gives a 'rats' about the shackles, trim them when the top gets whacked......in 12 months time, let the car breath, ya gotta let it shape itself.... Keep at it, you're on target. Cheers, Drewfus
I've been watching this build very close..uh...um..just because...yeah, that's it... I can't wait to see it at the Pileup.
I vote no chop, at least not while it sits nice and high in the ass end, love it like it is, shackles and all!
Tuck, your car would look great chopped, but man, oh man, does it look good just the way it is. And that's coming from someone who thinks everything should be sliced at least a little.
Love it! Dare to be different, and don't chop the top. After all,why spend all that money to look like every fiberglass car on the planet?
