In stance anyway... I LOWERED IT... 4" drop axle and 2" drop in the rear- It still has the stance, just not the 4x4 feel... Now all it needs is a little off the TOP--- 3-4"... This car has that early look that I didnt want to ruin, I've searched all over and other than old pics its not to often you see a 34 that sits high- I didnt want it 4x4 high... but more like milner dragging the circut high... I dropped the spindle steering arms after reading one of the Hot Rod spotlights on drop axles. It was pretty easy, you just need a pipe that fits on the end of the spindle, a pipe wrench and a good vice- and lots of HEAT. I had the drums turned- got all the hard lines- soft lines- rebuilt the master- notched the spindles to fit the lincoln plates- painted the lincoln backing plates in wrinkle black- put in new seals and bearings- new axle/ dropped by titus- new spring- and best of all Its licenced, 60 day permit and the plates are on there way... I would like to give a NOD to Wilson regarding the lincoln plates they manufacture... VERY NICE PIECES... Thanks guys. more pics---->
yeah I like 3" to 3 1/2"... anything more than that and they look squashed- This thing is like a lead ball on my leg... taking over my life, to anyone who bought anything from me in the classifieds everythings in the mail- I'm a PUNK... sorry for the delay but I got sidetracked from packaging up parts due to some BIG DISTRACTION in my shop damn it- all is well now. I will be on the road soon. I got the glass coming but not soon enough... heres a quick and dirty photoCHOP. Tuck
Tuck...............Plenty-o-time for a haircut between now and Pileup, get the tape out and plug the saw in....................Ha Ha ..........looks real good and early..............Littleman
At first I thought the same thing, but I like them now, they are a hint to the cars past, if you would say...........Littleman
those shackles RULE... I love them. They ad character... and they were put on long before the 70's BRO. Sorry if it reminds you of your high school dayzzz root... dayzz and confused hahaha... Tuck
I must have missed the thread where this popped into your life. but I love it. but being a flathead freak, hey what can you do. it does scream early. not sure on the shackles, but if you love em, thats all that counts. cool, cool car.
Love the coupe! Flatheads always give me a boner. It would look even better if it was sitting in my garage.
I've enjoyed everything about this build...lose the parallel leaf springs and use a transverse. Like Root said, the shackles are killin' me.
Amen... they looked really rough when I first saw them, but thinking about their purpose... and what the car was built for, they completely fit! Ben
How many hours do you have in it now Tuck? Seems like only weeks since you pulled it out of the weeds. Hang on, it was. I know what you,re saying about the shackles and their historical significance to this car but.........Post a pic without them, see what a difference it makes.
I love the shackles too, but I gotta admit I'm feeling the urge to grow a mullet. Dude, that is period correct!
i vote no chop. I think it adds more character without the chop..plus you get some headroom...you canadian giant... now...getting it to bare steel would piss milner off.. tok
I'm with Tok on this one, looks better with the top the way it is. Baaaaaaaaaaaaack in the days many couldn't afford the chop and when they ran they looked just like that on the street.
Make sure you have a solid panhard bar because those shackles will let the car flop from side to side. Factory shackles are rigid for a reason as I found out in the late sixties in my Z-28 when I tried to make room for the G70-15 wide oval studded snow tires.
My buddy has a steel stock height topped 32 5w. He went back and forth a couple of years trying to decide whether to chop it or not. I told him, you'll only have one choice after you cut it. He kept it stock height, and seems to be glad he did. They all look badassed with a chop, but he gets more comments about how neat it is to see one not chopped. There's no doubt then that it's not glass!
It takes a real man to leave the roof at stock height. I love the shit out of '34s with stock roof lines. It's definately look'in killer just the way it is, stance is right on. J
