I am plenty excited and now I need to learn about my new engine but how?
The 'search' function does not work. I went advanced and asked for Model B in the title only and got 25 results and NONE of the results were for Model B.
I tried Model+B, search title only and got model A, model T and model 77.

Is there any way to get the search to work?

What do you want to know? There is a magaqzine dedicated to performance bangers, called Ford'A' speed technology. www.hotforhotfours.com

I want to know everything that Jim Brierley knows. :)

I dont have a B oil pump and it appears that A and B are identical except for the pickup tube--Can I use an A oil pump? I thank everyone for the information.
Where can I find the serial number list to see when mine was made?

Can anyone answer the question in my original post?

  8. The serial number was located on the flywheel housing which could have easily been replaced. The boss used for the serial number on the Model A was still there but not used. Try fordbarn.com and ahooga.com and use the search function there. Also check out http://www.fordgarage.com/

A & B oil pumps are almost identical, use whatever you have. I open up the entry and outlet ports a little and turn down the shaft between the bushings for added flow. Retain the screen assy. I don't even know all that I knew about B's as I have forgotten half of it.

  11. i think a b already has a turned down shaft
that's the only difference that i know of
    tk

  12. I hear that some are changing to a modified V8 pump with internal pressure relief.
Also, I think Dan Price has a full oiling system and other make billet pumps.

It really depends on how you want to set up your oiling system.

The V8 and Price pumps are meant for full pressure oiling systems, not worth the trouble on stock oiling but I would install a full-flow filter.

Thanks, guys. What about the huge oil fill tube? Does the B really need that or can I use the A?

  15. It also doesn't need that wretched, overly-heavy crankshaft with all the extra weight... just send it to me and I'll dipsose of it properly :)

Great find- looking forward to seeing how things progress!

Sorry Mac. I was disappointed to learn that mine is a 32, so no counterweights

  17. Early B's used a tube that was the same diameter as the A but slightly longer. You should be able to use the one designed for an A and not know the difference (unless you are doing a concourse restoration).

  18. The 1932 "B" had counterweights late in the year.

thanks Charlie, do you know of a monthly serial number list?

  20. You can find it in "The 1932 Ford Book" or "The Early Ford V8 As Henry Built It'. Probably on line somewhere but I can't put my finger on it. Post your number with XXX for the last 3 digits and someone will help you.
