History I found a truck. What is it?

I found an abandon truck when I was a kid, in about 1975. I went looking for it a couple of days ago and there it was right where I remembered it over 30 years ago. After a bunch of digging with my dad, I pulled most of it home (the better fender is still buried and I couldn’t find one door – need to do some more looking). I found one door, crushed cab, both front fenders, hood, and some other stuff. It is in a very remote area and was almost completely buried under dirt and brush. No one would have found it without looking for it.

What the heck is it? I know it is not a Chevy or Ford.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Is it red? If it is my guess would be firetruck! But that's only if your description was a little more vague. I know it has fenders and doors, so that's very helpful.

Oh- now there's PICTURES! I'll take away my guess of fire truck- :(

Thanks, thats very helpful. But, I think you are wrong.

If I could be less vague, I wouldn't be asking for help identifying it.

I think you should have got it 30 years ago. Looks like a few parts might be salvageable.

It has a distinctive hood with horizontal louvers on the sides and a curved ridge on each top. Almost looks art deco.

Yeah, I thought so too. I don't think I have ever seen a hood like this before.

All I can add is it was a big ie semi -truck size one. Those cutaways in the back cab corners are for vertical stacks/mufflers.

BAD ROD, you beat me to what I was about to say... With those style lines in the hood, and the shape of the rear window I'm guessing it's identifiable. How's the frame? Motor or gear-box still there? Pic of the dash pannel?

    Edit...

Well, thst's funny... Aparently it takes a couple minutes for your pictures to show up.

    Pir8Darryl,

I could not find the frame or any running gear. Looks like someone just dumped the cab down the embankment. It has a lot of wood in the cab. As in almost all of the support originally came from wood.

    JohnEvans,

I think the picture is a bit deceiving. Those “cut aways” are the rear cab corners folded over a bit.

It is interesting to me that the cab has a flat back - which I think of as 1920's and the front fenders are more large and round like the 1930's.

  15. The best way to ID that is going to be with one of those pictorial spotter's guides, maybe your local library has one? You'll just have to compare it to pictures in the book.

OK Bad Rod I see what you are saying about the cab corners. WAG Hudson. The way the rear of the hood is shaped to meet the cowl . Dash cluster looks 30s.

It could be one of a number of trucks of that era. It looks like it might be good for a piece of yard art at best at this stage.

My buddy has half of an old cab fastened to his wood fence facing the road and it drives guys driving by nuts. It was in pretty close to the same shape when he put it on the fence.

  20. Interesting. I think the door and that dash date it about 1932-1936. The dash and the character lines on the hood are distinctive but I can't place them.
Does that head-lite offer any clues?

the picture is showing the inside of the cab back. the corners are "normal" you are just seeing the inside. and judging from the utter lack of an inside, appears to have been wood framed.

Hey, that's my truck! What are you doing digging in my property? I was going to fix it up one day. My Edith is almost done quilting up the new interior!

From the old timer with all of the cool tin sinking into the earth out back that won't sell anything.

(And yes, my wife's name really is Edith!)

  23. Try looking on this site, maybe it will help you identify the truck. Great looking hood and dash by the way. http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/

  24. The dash is pretty cool at least salvage that for a project.

  25. That truck has serious patina. You are very ambitious. Good Luck.
