So I finally got the nerve to cut my roof. I just had to show off my chop so far. I worked all day on it stripping the interior, glass, measuring, remeasuring and then the fun part cutting! Tomorrow I plan on at least tacking things in place. Here are a few pics of the fiasco as it played out today. My buddy Ryan stopped by to give a helping hand.

The chop is 5 inches, plans are to reverse the eyes on the front spring and run a T spring in the rear to get the stance where it needs to be.

One thing worth mentioning, I just had back surgery a month ago and I finally felt well enough to get out and take this project on. I can't wait to get this thing done, but easy does it. (Hence why it took me all day to just get this far!) The last thing I want is to push too much and end up needing surgery again.

Anyway, here are the pics!:D

First cut!! (No turning back now!)

Well, that's where I left off for the day. It was time to shower and take my daughter to karate. Plan on welding and more tomorrow. Thanks for taking a look!

I would love to finish the other sleeve, unfortunately the Navy changed their tattoo regulations...... So, until I'm out for good no more ink.

Thanks for the comments, I really appreciate them. I know 5 inches is a heavy chop. I debated for about two months on 4 or 5 inches. Even with all the extra work involved, I'm happy I chose the latter.

  12. I hope you saved the parts you cut out, I had back surgery 4 years ago, I only took 4 inches out of mine, I'm writing this from a hospital bed, just had to have 3 disc removed from my neck and a steel plate installed.
What I'm getting at is, unless you're one of the shorter feller, you're going to be banging you head a lot more than you think. Just so you know, I've had back and neck pain all my life for one reason or another, just wish I'd thought more about it before just looking cool.

Might just want to rethink before you get to far along.

Gary, I'm sorry to hear about your back and neck. I know the pain (even with medication) is terrible and I wish you the best in your recovery.

Thanks so much for your consideration. I will be ok if I can get the stock seat back in. It is springy enough to provide comfort. I plan on sectioning the seat riser to get the clearance I need. I did save the cutout pieces just incase something goes wrong with the reattachment.

Once again, thanks for your concern. You'll be in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

I plan on posting a few good detail shots. As I was researching this chop I was surprised by the lack of a "step by step guide" I have been studying the Rolf coupe chop and plan to follow his lead for the most part.

FTN go ahead and get tattoos if you want em. 5 inches looks mashed with the wheels and stock stance. You're gonna have to change it up for that "look" to work.

  19. That's "Nasty", and I like "Nasty"!:D

  20. The car looks good, but the Navy isn't going to kick you out for a tattoo. Look at the regulation again. you can "finish" an existing tattoo.

5 Inch chops are not that common and look Rad. It's going to stand out and get many thumbs up. When finished its going to be a gem and give you a lot of attention. Nothing beats A models that has that custom stance and body. Keep your progress posted.

It looks great! Take it easy lifting those parts. I had back surgery in 2008, titanium plate and 3 screws. My back is fine now. Do what your Dr. tells you. Let it heal.
