Okay, let's try this again: I recently installed a Hurst Competition Plus shifter in my 1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk. The first few times I used the shifter, there was a lot of spring pressure to get the shifter into the reverse gate, and a small amount of spring pressure to get the shifter into the 1-2 gate. Then something happened, and now it takes the same amount of pressure to get into the reverse gate as it does to get the shifter into the 1-2 gate. Can someone please tell me why this happened and how to fix it. I am sincerely hoping that this post will not be deleted like the previous one was because IT WAS IN THE WRONG FORUM.

  2. This shifter is on a 4 speed and not a 3 speed isn't it?

  3. You will need to look at the shifter itself. there is an adjustment for the spring pressure. It sounds like the jam nut has backed off and let the spring loosen up.
