hunt for 1955-1964 chevy rear end code data

    i have 3 55-64 chevy pumpkins and need to find a listing of how to determine what years they are...any help would be appreciated - they are ALL 3 code rears - that much i know....thanks for any help...

    post the codes.


    Casting date codes have the last digit of the year as the last number of the code. for example A 12 3 would be Jan 12, 1963

    These are the stamped two letter codes. I don't think the vette codes are in here, though

    the numbers on the pumpkins are BM 0618 & E2382 & 3789812 on one

    and 3707306 on the P case one what do these numbers mean?....or where can i look them up???...thanks

    The long number is the casting number, that doesn't tell you much about what's inside.

    BM is the code for a 3.36 posi, I assume it is a stamped number? I would guess that 0618 might be the date it was assembled

    Also if they are out of the car, look at the ring gears, should be a date code (probably month and year like 6 62 ) and tooth count (like 11-37)

    That's correct squirrel, code and build date. (June 18) E2382 is weird. Can't be a date code for the casting, too many numbers. And yes the 7 figure gig is the actual casting number. Corvette codes begin with "C" as in CB, CD, etc. I have a Hollander at home. Give us more numbers or a few pics.
