Background info. I have a 292 Chev six in my '37 Chev pickup. The motor is mildly built with a cam, .060 overbore, and my carb is a 390CFM Holley 4bbl. This thing whistles in the carb like a MF. At cruising speed it is almost enough to drive me to distraction. I can modulate the noise with throttle, but not much. I have changed air cleaners with no help. No air cleaner, same shit. It's a good thing I don't have a radio 'cause I couldn't hear it anyway. Anyone got any idea how to cure this? PanheadGuy
I had a 300 ford that did that, it was an intake leak that was hard to spray carb cleaner in, so I had a hard time finding it, but thats where it was. ran ok, but whistled LOUD on hot days.
Are you running an adaptor between the 4 bbl Holley and possibly the two bbl straight six intake manifold? Or just an adaptor period? I have had those adaptors whistle. There really was no intake leak, it was just the shape of the 4 down to 2 that did it. I had to grind a little away and reshape things a tad.... It only whistled under a hard throttle, you could almost play a tune with it... This is why you should only use six one barrels
