i tried searching to no avail i have wire wheels and was thinking of spray oil like wd40 or gear grease on them so wont rust up im not driving the car for awhile till i finish it what do you do ?
WD is not good for that! Try really cleaning them and waxing them. You can try the wheel makers' website for care instructions too.
Wash, clean and dry the wheels. Then wax them with a quality car wax. If the car is going to be sitting and is inside a garage or carport put it up on jackstands so the tires won't flat-spot if they are bias-ply.
I'm sorry, but I don't agree with the fact the WD40 isn't good. Dahh, WD means water displacement. I have used it for exactly the reason you are wanting to for years with excellent results. Hell, there's nothing better to shoot into a wet dizzy to get it working again. Granted, you will need to replentish the coating occasionally but hey it will work.
this stuff will work http://www.theruststore.com/Boeshield-T-9-12-oz-Aerosol-P3C4.aspx?gclid=CL-Uj-641ZkCFRIeDQodHFDVWA
You beat me to it. If I had wires, I think a squirt down by the nipples would be a great thing to prevent rust. I use it on likely-to-rust spots on my dirt bike and ATV and WD40 hasn't let me down yet.
Clean, wax, clean, wax, clean, wax. I clean the dust off of mine every time I drive my cars - except my hot rod. They have wheel wax now, probably no different than any other auto wax.
WD-40 is not good if you're ever planning to paint them. I'd just give them a good coat of spray bomb paint.
If your Not Driving the Car for awhile why not take them off & put them in the House were they will be Warm & Dry Put a Set of Junker wheels on it to move it Just my 3 cents
thanks for the replys i will first try wd40 and then order that spray bomb i knew someone made it for that reason i have the rims on my new chassis for mockup on the project im building and my big ass quad is in the garage awaiting transmission work to be finished thanks again
We would always winterize with wd40, but thats a measure before it rusts. If its too bad, set the whole thing down in a tub of borax enriched water and hook a battery drip charger to a metal plate suspended in the water, and the other lead on the wheel and after about a day the rust will have moved from the wheel to the plate.
My Dad told me about this stuff he used ta use, the only thing is ya gotta apply tha shit every damn day. He called it "Elbow grease"
