I will say this thread moves the Entertainment meter a peg or two. Or maybe I'm starting to show my age.
If I build a coupe, I would refer to it as "my coupe". If you were expaining it to someone else you might say..... Did you see Crystal Blue's coupe. If I become famous and die, the next owner may call it The Crystal Blue Coupe. But, it would be pure arrogance for me, to refer to my build as, The Crystal Blue Coupe. Hope that made sense
Definitely the ex Henry Ford cp If you sell the fenders they'd be Fenders ex Henry Ford fenders? WTF over....and out Sorry, the devil made me do it!
We took some selected letters off my buddy's van, Ford club wagon E250. They ended up on a Dodge power wagon as F.U.2. A truck with an attitude!
Gotta trademark this quick in my signature Not sure about my next build, it's planned to be channeled and fenderless
To those not quite gettimg the deal here, I think the deal is not naming the car a name, say The Chemical City Coupe, or Death's Doorstep, (both great names! not picking on you guys, just using your names as examples...) It's the narcisistic view of naming the car after yourself. I have always been of the mind that when car is refered to after the name of it's builder it's an honour bestowed upon that car by the general public. The Doanne Spencer Roadster - it has a name of honour because it's builder has earned that name in the eyes of his peers. If I suddenly started calling my roadster pickup The Chip Quinn Roadster pickup, That puts the ephisis on ME, not the car and it's place in history. That's crossing the line into douchebaggery and other such evil things. If I'm lucky and ever finish this thing and hear someone else it refer to as the "Chip Quinn Roadster Pickup", I'll know I made it! But it aint coming off of my lips...
I've honestly never heard anyone do this. I guess I dont travel in the right/wrong circles. Now, I guess the the broad with the chow dog drove a hot rod....
Me, I'm terrible with names. I know people by their cars. When people ask me if I know someone, I ask "What do they drive?". As for naming a car after yourself, please......
I've never understood why anyone would say their car or truck is a 'she'. No Tow Truck should ever be a 'she'.
When the local Cruise Night season kicks back off next month, I will try to take a picture of a mid-70s Corvette that usually shows up. It looks like it was done in the early '80s (fake billet Blade wheels, a lot of Pep Boys bolt-ons). The best part about the car is the lettering job. It says, "400 horsepower 383 STROKER" on the side of the hood scoop, and it has the guy's name on the roof right above the driver's window. And......inside the car, he has a large photo binder that's all about HIM. He was an obscure B-movie second-tier actor who still think he's relevant. If you're wondering what he looks like, picture a middle-aged guy with a fake tan, jet black dyed hair with a massive comb-over and terry-cloth shorts. The car looks like something that Brock Landers or Chest Rockwell would have driven in a bad '80s porn movie.
Years ago a friend had a '75 Gran Torino with missing letters as well. It became known from then on as the "ran to"
Dammit Jeem.... Are you just bored? Now I'll always wonder what to call my cars so nobody is confused. Thanks alot.
It also works for landmarks like,,oh you live on the Johnson place. When there has not been a Johnson living there for 25 years
To me, its definatly a provenace thing. Fine if it used with a historical view on icon rods : Spencer,Balkin,Mcmullen, ect. Otherwise I`d say its real ego BS,if a current owner or builder says it about his own ride. Just my .02.
