How do you remove a 57/58 cadillac steering wheel without cuting the horn wire?

I cut the wire on my original column (to get the wheel off to repair it) and it broke off inside the column while I was sodering it back together (the wire runs down the center of the column). I have a spare column (with a nasty wheel) and would like to remove it correctly. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  2. I haven't removed the wheel from either of my 57's, but I have a 62 undergoing restoration right now that had a contact pin in the end of the steering shaft. I would almost bet that when it was installed the wire was fed down the tube and then into the molex connector. If you can fish it up through the tube tie a string to it before you pull it up, then you can use the string to pull it back down the tube when you reinstall it.

Is the molex connector at the wheel end or the bottom of the column?
