Hi, Fortunately it does not happen too often, but... I don't know how to take it apart.. I'd like to remove the axle with the wheels with the digits on them. I can dislodge the far end, but then the axle is still held in place by the cog on the near end. That cog is fixed to the shaft but how? Is it the 3 copper like thingies around the shaft that keep the cog in place? Can someone help me out please? Regards, Chris
From pictures and similar things I've worked on it looks like this. 1)the gear is made with 3 slots. 2)the other part fits into slot...then 3)that is struck with a small chisel which makes it tight in the slot. So you have to squeeze it together with pliers, then spread it afterwards with a small chisel after assembly. It's not worth it unless it's a last ditch effort to fix something as it's so easy to mess it up. I would clean it as best I could, q-tips, wd-40, etc. The lettering especially would be so easy to mess up, come off when you clean even carefully...just my opinion.
Thank you very much for your detailed response!! The lettering is so fragile. I think it can’t be cleaned indeed. But there are stickers with 10 digits on them that can be used to “fix” the lettering. That is the plan. Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
