    A '55-up bellhousing for a 235 will take a Muncie.

Are you nuts, just use a standard 4 speed or one of those 5 speeds from a S10. Waste of a good tranny.

Not to "piss in your Cornflakes" but the Muncie transmission WAS the standard GM 4 speed from 1964 on.

Since it seems you guys know all.?

What would you put in front of a Muncie? I have decided to go with a 292 IL6 in my 31 5w Chevy coupe.. If I'm lucky I'll pull about 300hp and that is from very knowledgeable people from the hamb. Maybe I wrong.:D

In front of a Muncie? I'd use a clutch and a bellhousing.

If your interested in a 5 speed, search here on the HAMB for a post I started on the AX15 from a jeep or Dakota pickup. Suposedly, they can handle up to 1000 HP. Deep first gear to get you rolling better, and OD to help out with the mpg's. Cheap and pleantifull too... The AX15 is the "little brother" of the NV3500 that gets installed behind diesel engines in 1-ton pickups.

Ya'll won't like me. I ran a 153" with a munice and a 4.11 in a 12 bolt in my 67 Camaro. Got 25mpg like that. What did I waste? Still have the old munice. Put a T-5 in my roadster. I kind of like the idea. Do your own thing. And for those who think it is a waste, then buy mine and use it in your car. Yes it's overpriced too!!

My dad had a Dakota with a 5 speed, you could stand on it, lay rubber up into 3 gear with that 318. Pulled multiple cars with it. I never broke anything and the tranny shifted great. He sold it with 180g. The guy came back 6 month after buying it to see if He would put a clutch in it. He did and off it goes agian

Probably a good place for it, a Munchie might last a while behind a Six. Only in the world of the Chebbie-brainwashed was the Munchie ever considered a "good tranny"- good for benchpressing exercise changing them, maybe- or a "correct" restoration- or holding a door open after it "Munches"

How many Smokin Joe's we got on here now anyway...
I put a Muncie in the last Deuce. Only problem I ever had with them was Synchros going bad. That and dealing with the 800 gazillion needle bearings when you rebuild one. Never liked the Bird Warmer t-10. Third gear is "somewhere up and over thataway". Not as bad as the old Corn-binder Scout tranny but close.
