Hot rod photography, how to do a night shot

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Brickster, Mar 11, 2007.

  1. a second car with headlights aimed at yours across from or behind .. cover one lite or try hi beams?
even just parking lights , amber- clear.. might work
digital would make this way funner to try em all
lighting opposite side would give the silohuette

as in most movie night shots they are taken during the day.!

light can be darkened easier than dark being lightened

  2. I like taking night shots but I am no expert when it comes to handling a camera. My old 35mm was neat as you had more control, but my new digital has a few tricks up its sleeve too. The thing I like about digitals is you can lighten up pic's and take a bunch and just delete your mistakes......here's one I took under the "used car lot" bulbs overhead.

You need ambient light or you need to set up strobes. You also MUST have a tripod and a shutter release. A point and shoot digi camaera is going to have it's limitations.

These photos were all shot at night, on very long shutter speeds.

I have both a homemade rig and a bogen arm with a grip that holds the camera.
