Hot Rod Magazine's Drag Weekend West is this weekend Mar 31-Apr 3 in Arizona, starting Chandler at Wild Horse Pass drag strip Thursday and Friday, then going to Tucson Dragway Saturday, and back to WHP Sunday.

I'll be racing my Altered Wheelbase Chevy II, but there probably won't be too many other old looking cars...even so, it's a fun race. And the guys from Roadkill are going to try to be there racing something.

If you're around, go watch. Racing starts in the morning.

Have a good time, Squirrel. Show 'em what a blown, altered wheelbase Chevy II can do!

  7. Have fun, your car is always a great rep for a traditional AWB car.

Thanks! I drove up to Tucson this morning and picked up my brother who is copilot on this trip. Then up to Chandler, and got signed in and tech inspection. There's at least one other car in the Gasser class this year, a neat 55. should be a good race, or at least a test of survival. That's Thom from Hot Rod magazine taking a picture.

I finally have a chance to look at a computer...been a long day! I got involved with a little thing on the local TV news in Phoenix first thing at the track, they filmed me telling a little about my car and doing a lame fake launch...then I made a pass next to the other Gasser, the red 55, and my car ran like crap, 11.17 to his 10.65. I did some work on the car, fresh plugs and stuff, and later ran 10.62. yay. Stuck around till they quit racing around 2 pm, talking to folks, watching the roadkill guys run their rear engine little pickup, etc. Nice drive through the copper mines Superior, Hayden, Mammoth, etc down through Oracle into Tucson. Staying at my moms house tonight, then racing at Tucson Dragway in the morning. A few folks we know are planning to come watch. My wife, even :)

I'll see if I can get a few pics up.

Thanks. Long day we are most of the way to Phoenix and finally had a chance to stop for lunch at 4:30. Car ran bad first run. I played with a few things and finally replaced the condenser and ran a solid 10.40. Fastest run ever in Tucson. The 55 ran 10.75 so I'm ahead now by a fair margin. Also the Hot Rod photog took some more pics of the car.

Sounds like you'd make a pretty good poker player Jim. :D
Good luck man. If the weather co-operates, & the creek don't rise, I'll bet that deuce has got a thirty something in it, no problem.

I made it home! Won the Gasser class, had another neat grudge race against the 55, etc. Fun weekend. Saw a couple guys from the HAMB in Chandler today. 790 miles more on my odometer since Thursday morning.

Congratulations on the win Jim! What a weekend right! That video is great the car was sounding and looking super. I can see why it does so well. Did you say the gasser class had only two contestants in it? I would have thought more would have showed up. Joe

  30. Outstanding. 790 miles in a 10.30's Hot Rod is an admiral accomplishment.
