Critics act like you're goin' ta Tube-axle it at a Jeepers' Jamboree!
Jacking it was an extreme example. :p:cool:

Took a not quite o/t picture of the definitely o/t project with the roadster rolling stock on it…and the same on the ‘57 while I was at it.

Love the stance you've got going on.
Are you setting up the suspension setup like the one you had a Dogfight years ago?
And forgive me if you've mentioned it already, but what size and brand are tires and wheels?

Thanks! Yeah, just bolt on chassis stuff. Not as crazy with customizing, will appear mostly stock externally.

These wheels are polished American Racing TTOs 15x5.5” front with 5.60-15 firestone/Coker and the rear are 15x7 with 28.5” Towel City recaps.

The Gathering helped realign my priorities. El Camino is on the back burner, roadster is front and center again. Did some welding today on the ladder bar mounts, engine mounts, steering box recess, and front spring notches. #gatr2023

Awesome, those spare tire arms are hard to come by! I’m sure someone else will take the left overs. Good buy!

Parts car? Let me know if you're going to sell the body! I wouldn't mind having that for my old A chassis!

Please don't mount the rad./ grill shell forward of the crossmember. It makes the "29" on deuce rails look like an aardvark. It's all about proportion. Great build. Your approach is spot on.

I initially thought I might use the whole body but my cowl and doors are in great shape and better than this one. It was going to take forever to get all the little bits and pieces to build the rest of the body and I need to save as much time as possible to get the car done for the Gathering. My passenger quarter is ok but the other side is really rough. And I wanted as much original sheetmetal as I could get. So the new plan is to use the back half of this car for mine. This new car has everything I need. It also looks a lot nicer than it is. It isn’t bad…but they did do patch work all around the bottom. It’s certainly not too nice to cut up. I will more than likely be redoing the patches in the quarters…but it’s all the brackets and braces inside that make it worthwhile. I’ll assemble this one back together with my old parts and a few reproduction pieces and it’ll still be a good car for someone who has the time. It would also be a great candidate for making into an RPU.

I also might see if I can make this thing run. The engine does spin.

Well I had yet another distracting project…I sold the daily and bought something much cheaper and a little more “economical” but I couldn't leave it alone. It does also help insure I don’t bring home anything else to get in the way! But now that’s done, and the funds left over from the whole deal are getting put to use rounding up all the rest of the parts I need. This weeks arrivals include some rear brakes and a third member. This one from speedway is a new nodular iron case, 31 spline, 3.89:1 gears, and limited slip. By far the cheapest option available. Even one from Quick Performance was more expensive and used a factory cast case. I’ve been a party to these speedway diffs in a few other cars over the years and not seen any problems with them.

Some progress. I hadn’t actually put a third member in the rear end housing before. So this morning I did…it took a little but more clearancing around the flange inside the back of the housing for the left side bearing cap. Finally got it taken care of, trimmed the axles and installed them with the brakes. Reassembled the chassis and mocked up the two halves of the body. I needed to see the whole thing again. I think I’ll narrow the rear and another inch per side now that I have a better idea of where the quarter panels sit. Starting to think about header plans some other details.

And the other one is back together to hopefully find a new home soon. It is listed in the classifieds and I don’t plan on parting it out.

Not sure how much further I’ll get on the headers this weekend but I got my flanges made. Original Hedman’s are 5/16 plate, but I already had a bunch of 3/8 so that’s what I used. Bought a few carbide hole saws off of Amazon for $12 each but only used one for all the holes, pretty impressed. I have abandoned my original pie-in-the-sky plan of some crazy 180 degree headers for some more traditional ‘lakes headers’. Going with a real split ‘35/6 driveshaft for the main cone. Found some 4” radius bends from summit that should work well for the primaries. Have to figure out how to get from the 1.5” to the driveshaft piece, but time will tell!

That’s the McGee/Scritchfield roadster. I think I’m going to make a pretty close version of these headers. I was wondering how they made the transition from the front primary to the driveshaft since the driveshaft is so much bigger….here’s the answer I guess!

  30. DBFC1307-D1CB-41E1-BADA-E9E2BEF0A56F.png I was watching a video today on YouTube, Piero at Mad fabricators is cloning tweety pie. They made the headers and it looks like from the front primary into the cone they made relief cuts to soften the transition. Here’s a crappy screenshot
