Has anyone on here made their own roof frame for their T-Bucket? I'm looking for plans and maybe the measurements for the canvas roof panels itself? Any help, pictures, etc. would be appreciated! Thanks, KJ!
I dont, and havent. When I worked for zipper we mostly bent roofs out of conduit tubing, it was a lot of tweaking and twisting. I'd get a idea of where I wanted it to end, mock up some bends and just go for it if I were making a roof for my T
Take some cardboard and masking tape and make a partial side view, top section sitting on the top of the body and windshield. This should locate the height of the 2 top bowes and give you the general proportions to make the top look right. Make sure to stand back 10 or 20 feet and keep adjusting things until it looks right. Compare this mock up with pics of buckets that have tops you like.
Made one for a '30 coupester…. never got to the cloth... sold... get an electrics guy to help, they bend conduit all the time and get the distance from one bend to the other right, and boat shops have the pivots and unions you will need.. use masking tape to simulate the angles the cloth will take … step back to give it [a boner's] perspective... 1" ratchet straps as pull downs along the trailing edge... use model A door check strap retainers to anchor the straps to the floor... maybe take sections of the leftover ratchet straps to someone who can sew a seam in it, that creates a loop at each end... slide them onto the bows before you assemble them... connects the bows... also sew a couple loops to slide onto the rear bow and a couple loops to anchor the straps to the floor... this set up will pull the center bow [back/ up]... that tightens the cloth when you ratchet the rear bow [down/ back]... … go kat go !
