hello i have heard that a holly 450 has better circuitry than a 390 CFM carb??? your thoughts? its going on a 1941 ford Flathead motor. one of the carb experts in the area likes the 450 over the 390 and the price of the 450 is better also. just getting some of your ideas thank you!! mike
I have a Holley 390 Model 8007 on a 239 cu. in. 8BA (with stock internals) and it works fine in a 40 Ford. You have to install the carb backwards and use a 1 inch spacer. I don't know anything about the circuitry of a 450 but the 390 is pretty simple. As i recall they come with #51 jets but you can change to something else. Yes, they are expensive but, they are good carbs for small cubic inch engines. 221 cubic inches is small. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_specs-85to100mid.htm Will this 390 fit your manifold and linkage? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1975-76-Fo...tYlIM7:sc:USPSPriorityFlatRateBox!33076!US!-1
No you aren't..! No such thing as a "holly" carburetor. You MAY be looking for a "Holley" carburetor..! Mike
About ten years ago I built a Merc Flathead and used an Offy 4 bbl intake and Holley 390 carb. The carb worked great right out of the box. Ray
