Technical Holley 4180 - What is it and what's it worth?

I picked up a vehicle with a 4180 on it, it works, the vehicle runs. From what I can tell it seems to be a 600cfm carb, and I plan on pulling it. I bought a NOS Motorcraft rebuild kit for it.

I think it is a little too big for my application (71 302 in a bronco). Anyhow, I am debating selling it. Is it and the rebuild kit worth anything? Or is it just another thing headed to the scrap pile?

Also if anyone has any information on them, I'd love to know. Other than a short article in hotrod, there doesn't seem to be a lot of info on these things.

  2. If I'm not mistaken that's a OEM carb off a '85 Mustang HO 302. The CFM rating is 550 IIRC. One issue with these is their fixed idle adjustment. Yours has been further abused with a off-brand rebuild kit that damages the threads in the float bowls for the float valves. For me that's a parts carb at best.... may have some value to a restorer down the line sometime.

Yep! Looks just like the carb that came off my old '83.5 Mustang GT 5-speed car which started off as a mid year change over for Ford...
    That car had T-tops....

Checkout foureyedpride forum, it’s for early foxbody mustang enthusiasts.
Someone there might want that carburetor for a restoration.
They work pretty good for a stock engine.

Decent street carbs. I had one on a 302, it came off of a 351W HO. Actually, I had two of them, the second one came off a 460 in a E350. The 351W carb I never could get the secondary's to open right, the 460 one worked good on that 302, it had a small cam, aluminum intake and headers. I think I still have the 351 carb around here somewhere, was going to put a kit in it but never could find it listed anywhere. I think they were built by Holley to Ford's specs, the vents out of the bowls are an easy way to spot them.

That is by far the best drivable Holley carb ever made . Annular discharge ventures are the answer . It has 4 circuit idle adjustments , plugs must just be removed . I changed mine to center hung float bowls , secondary metering block , manual choke . I have rebuild and adjusted 100s of Holley carbs ., tune this one and it’s a keeper . You must understand a Holley carb operation to make the best of what you have . It’s kinda like changing the cam and not changing valve springs , you got to tune it with all the good stuff or don’t touch it .

I have a Barry Grant "Gold Claw" carb that has the annular boosters... One of the best carbs in my stash. ;)
