greetings, I picked up a automatic hemi trans today at a swapmeet. I am having trouble finding any info about it. the guy said it was in a Chrysler imperial, the number on the drivers side is 1408240-4. there is also a 6 and 24 cast in the drives side. I think it is a 3 speed torqueflite, but not sure where to find the numbers to confirm.
Yes, pics would be great. But reading between the lines of your post, it sounds like the trans is thought to be a Torqueflite, meaning 3 speed and from a hemi model. If that is all correct so far, it should be an aluminum bell housing, cast iron main case and aluminum tailhousing, with a drum style parking brake at the back of the trans. And, if that is all correct, will also fit ‘55 up Plymouth, ‘53 up Dodge, ‘52 up Desoto and ‘54 up Chrysler/Imperial V8s, both hemi and poly, thru 1961 models for all named. Ray
The part number on the side indicates an early part. I would expect 52 or 53 maybe. That means it could be a PowerFlight. I would avoid one of those. Go on Google and look at images to ID.
Powerflite begins mid '53. The casting # is '54, so it should be a 2 speed ... be very happy it isn't earlier.
what all you got and how much??? I have a 3 speed manual trans out of 50 Plymouth with 6 cyl., is it same as powerflite auto?
I will post some pics. I took everything that would come off a 55 Powerflite. It is the brake stuff on the end of the trans.
