I went to look at a pair of chevy doors this weekend and came home with this too. The frame that was under this before it was taken apart looks like a chevy with parellel leaf front and rear. All of the body panels nailed to a wood frame and it has a "body by fisher" tag on the cowl. It's a coupe that this guy decapitated. He still has the top but wanted to keep it for his project. I was thinking it might be a Studebaker but that's only a guess. Anyone know what it is and the year????
It looks like a 29 chevy to me the firewall is a dead give away for the 6 cylinder of that year, 28 was different. Small chance could be a 30 (not 31 or 32) I will check some of my pictures to make sure it isn't buick...ghost Just took a look at some pics and yes 29 chevy.
No body lines on the rear is what I don't know about. I need a drivers door but don't know what to ask for. Thanks!
Just checked on another thread on here called (29 chevy full sheet metal kit car). page 4, post 61. There is a pic of a old yellow 29 coupe and from what I could tell there is no body line on the quarter panel hope this helps And I still say 29 chevy...ghost
From the styling, it is pretty safe to say it is post-1926. After 1926, Fisher supplied bodies for GM only. Ghost probably hit the nail on the head.
Thanks! I thought fisher supplied body for others up to 30/31. I'm learning more about the Chevy stuff every day.
The Job Number is how you tell what it is. It can be a pain in the ass, but I was able to find the one on the '29 LaSalle cowl I have after some internet searches (that's how I know it's LaSalle). Post it up over to Chevytalk.org, if it's a Chevy they'll be able to tell you.
Aahhhh.... Welcome to the world of vintage Chevy's. Ghost pretty much nailed it- 29/30 Chevy coupe. The 29-30's did not have a beauty line in the 1/4 panels. Did you get anything else with it or just the pass side of the body? Check THIS THREAD on my 30 Coupe I just picked up. Good luck!
from wikpedia In 1916, the Company became the Fisher Body Corporation. Its capacity was now 370,000 bodies per year and its customers included Abbot, Buick, Cadillac, Chalmers, Chandler, Chevrolet, Churchfield, Elmore, EMF, Ford, Herreshoff, Hudson, Krit, Oldsmobile, Packard, Regal, and Studebaker. Fisher became all GM in 1926.
I got the frame and all body panels except driver's door and top. He still has the top for a project he's doing, but I'm going to try and get that too. The frame is very nice and the body isn't very rusty at all. If I can find a door I'll put it together next winter. Thanks for all the help!
yep... plane jane quarters makes it chev. i have a set of 29 chev quarters exactly like these waiting for a project
Rod, cool score. I might be able to get you connected with a guy east of Fremont that deals with 20's and 30's stuff. Plus he would be good to know for future projects. Gary
Job Number 30557 is a 1930 Chevrolet Universal Standard Coupe. Source: Genuine Chevrolet Parts, 1929-1939 Master Parts Lists, Six Cylinder Models.
Thanks! I am perty excited to find the rest of the body. I found a title for it while looking for the door! I hope that was the hard part to find.
I think the body tag with the 30557 number shown. Is from exderelicts post not hawgrods. Take a picture of your body tag hawgrod for pasadena and others to check numbers, or just give us the numbers. It looks like a good solid find...ghost
That is the tag on this car. xderelict was the first chevy nut that I asked. Thanks to all for the help.
