Help Me Decide, Should I use the fenders and running boards or not

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ratrodride, Dec 6, 2009.

  1. Please help me decide if I should run the fenders and running boards or not. They are in good shape and I'm really torn which way to go. l_f2aacf2a29d4475e9599b122835b9570.jpg

fenders look good. if you go fenderless, you gotta get that front end dropped a tad.

I think it looks better with the fenders as it sits right now.

  4. I vote fenders...but only because a Deuce frame and a 4" drop wasn't one of the options.

Really though, keep the fenders! Not everyone has the parts to keep theirs full-figured!

I like them both ways but odds are that you would drive the car a lot more and a lot further with fenders on it as you won't be worrying about that one cloud over there in the sky. If I get the body and frame I'm after it will have cycle fenders on the front and bobbed stock fenders on the back just because I like the look and the fact that this state has a fair weather fender law that says you have to have fenders or something to keep the spray off the wheels down if you drive in the rain and all of the good events are too far away from the house to guess that the weather will be great all the way over and back.
I agree with Hotrod linkin though, If you run minus fenders the nose needs to drop a lot.

  7. Ya know. thats what I've been thinking and thats why I installed them but do you think it looks more like a traditional hot rod without them? A bunch of guys and I are suppose to do a drive from NY to Bonneville next summer and all the other cars going are open wheel. The front is lower now than in the fenderless picture.

I like em both ways but you don't see them in fenders much. I would vote fenders.

  9. Go with the fenders, especially if you already know that you want to drive cross-country with it. On a trip that long you're going to run into rain and detours and fenders make the trip a lot more pleasant when that happens.

"Traditionally" unless it was a full out racer, sedans had fenders. It has only been the last 10 or so years that fenderless sedans have been popular. I know someone out there is gonna point out a fenderless sedan built in the 50's, but they were the exception and not the rule.

BTW, your sedan looks 100 times cooler with fenders than without. Use them especially since you say they are in good condition.

  12. OK guys which way looks more hod rodish. Not one of you said fenderless so far. My thought was "well I have them and their in good shape so why not put them on". The running boards make it look lower.

  13. You need to keep the fenders. You are really going to like them when it rains.

I really like the way the fenders look on your tudor. The fenders help it look lower, too!

I've been tossing the idea around with my A-bone, too. I have a nice set of fenders and all the bracketry, just haven't bolted it all together.

    Fenders.

But if it was a coupe, I'd probably say no fenders.

So you want to run fenderless because everyone else is? Build what you like and want, not what the crowd is doing or says to do. Just my $0.02

Dude, seriously, if you have to ask what your car should look like, why are you building it? I can understand wanting opinions, but it sounds like you're more interested in what's cool rather than what looks best for your car or what you have envisioned for the car...it seems like you're asking for a lot more than just an opinion...it sounds like you'd rather look cool like everyone else that isn't running fenders than look cool running fenders...either way it looks like a hot rod...

with those tires and wheels the fenders look more appropriate. leave em on, and drive in front of your fenderless friends on the roadtrip.

    Well, there ya go.
The number 3 reason to run the fenders.
Number 1 reason is that the car will stay cleaner and be safer to drive.
Number 2 reason is it looks better (IMHO). :D

I agree with Ruiner, A.P.Photography, and others; Of course we all have opinions and it's not wrong to ask for them. But if you are really in doubt, don't really LOVE the idea of one or the other, devote your time and energy to something that is worthwhile..........to you.
