Help ID 50's finned air cleaner...SP part #

    A friend found this cool little air cleaner. He'd like to know what it is. My guess is a boat ....I'm just guessing.

    Part numbers are cast in the base and top. SP601k in the top and SP802 in the base.

    The base looks like it fits earl 4 barrel carbs.

    Looks like cast aluminum. Every time you think you've seen it all.... I love it.

    It's an antique bilge vent. I'm pretty sure. There was usually one facing forward on the walkway in the bow and one facing aft for the fumes to escape at the stern. Sort of a marine road draft tube.:D They were often mounted on the walkway so they are low so not to trip over going around the cabin.

    Tommy...I thought the same thing when I saw pics. In person it is definitely an air cleaner. It's cast aluminum. I thought someone would recognize the so in the part number.

    Well it's not a marine A/C or it would have some kind of Coast Guard approved flame arrestor.

    I did some searching and found a part from speed products that had an sp part number.
