    Hey HAMBers,
I'm rebuilding a 66 289 and dropping in my 63 Comet. Anyone recommend some headers that will fit. Also, I'm finding some headers that work for 289 applications in same year for Falcon. Is the engine compartment the same dimensions in Comets/Falcons?
    Thanks,
    RNY

Early Mustangs will also be close. Some headers may say they fit both Falcon/Comet and Mustang.

  4. Falcon has less room than a Mustang..I have Doug’s in my 65 Falcon..they fit well...weren’t what I’d call easy to get in..can’t imagine dealing
with headers that don’t fit..I used the small bolts and ground a stubby wrench down in order to tighten them up...

  5. Dougs headers for the early Falcon; don't waste your time with Mustang headers. They're not cheap but do fit. The early Falcon/Comet engine compartment is 1.5" narrower than an early Mustang, believe me that makes a difference...

In 1970 I put Cragar headers on my '65 Falcon wagon with a 289 and manual trans. It was either Cragar's or Hooker's. The Hookers were more expensive so I went with the Cragar's. All I remember is that they were a real mother to install.

You can still buy 289 hipo exhaust manifolds brand new..... Maybe those would be easier to install.....

  10. They don't quite fit on the drivers side... some grinding on both the manifold and steering gearbox is required and the manifold gets a bit thin.
