Sanderson is correct. Follow their instructions.

Yes, and by the way, I have placed thermocouples in the area between a SBC iron head, and a Sanderson header.

Over an extended operating cycle, the temperature there never exceeded 440ºF.

People here are confusing exhaust gas temperatures with heat that is transferred to the metal.

I think the people who install gaskets on iron manifolds, that did not originally use them, also don't understand that the heads keep the manifolds cool, and gaskets prevent that.

Yeah, I usually look for advice in old threads, and often find my answer. If not, I add to it rather than start anew. Which is the better way I don't know

I was talking about the post just above mine....you brought the thread back to life, and the next reply looked like it was answering the original question, a year or so after the guy needed the info.

Which is why it's usually a good idea to search for old threads to find the answer you want, but if you can't find it, then start a new thread, and include something about " I searched for other threads, but didn't find the answer to my exact question. "

Yup, I did the job over a year ago and used the red sealant.

  9. Getting ready to pull the headers off my T and paint them. These guys have a lot of unsupported weight hanging on them. Do you still recommend not using gaskets? 20190728_144723.jpg

I recommend a mount down at the collector an one at the end of the muffler.....The thicker the header flange the better as most know. A 3/8", 7/16", or 1/2" flange could run with red RTV and tabbed washers.
