handmade dashboard

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lucky, May 7, 2009.

  1. all handmade from scratch for my boss's cutlass...yeah I know, 70's cutlass doesn't fit this board, but I'm proud of this piece..it is an exact replica of the stock plastic minus the vents and crap. he wanted a smoothed out dashboard so I made this. MANY hours to do, but the same thing can be done for other cars. I started with building a basic framework from 1/2" tubing which formed the upper lip area and then used 1/4" solid rod for the rest of the framework and then formed the sheetmetal for the rest...got painted candy black cherry-ish and then I cut some nice stainless to set into lower tray for future switches, etc to be mounted on

  8. thanks guys!

  9. no, it's not heavy at all...90% of the framework is 1/4 solid rod and it's really just the basic framing...the rest is 20g sheet..weighs more than the plastic one, but prolly only weighs about 7lbs

  10. Man, You do nice work....Very clean!
