talked to Racefab yesterday, he's gunna go through it for me.. drove the coupe around for an hour or so yesterday and it got a little warmer then usual, just over two hundred degrees and the the oil pressure dropped scary low, under five psi at an idle. When I start it it burps a big blue cloud out one side.. it's my own damn fault, I used the regular type intake gasket (cause I had a pair) when I swapped to the cross ram and lost the water seal, dumping a bunch of coolant into the crank case and drove it around till milkshake started coming out one of the breathers put the right gaskets in for aluminum intake to aluminum heads and changed the oil a couple times,, but the damage had been done. hoping to get it all back together for the Nasty Drags mid July moral of the story? use the right gaskets and take a look at the dip stick before you go driving around after a swap like this Paul
Damn, Paul, that's a shame. I'll bet that's just what you need with everything else you've got going on. Are you going to continue with the body and paint on the coupe while the engine is in surgery or spend the time on the modified? Frank

Aw, you'll have so much fun with that bad ass little modified you'll hardly miss the coupe while Racefab works his magic on your Rat...it'll be back on the road before ya know it!

As it turns out, there is hardly a person on this board that hasn't done something similar. An important reminder about attention to details........ thanks, and hope you get it squared away soon.

This is probably a stupid question, but what are the correct gaskets to use between aluminum heads and intake? That's a great looking Big Block by the way...
there's a few different brands that make a gasket style I've had excellent results with, they have a thin bead of sealer around all the ports and water passage openings in the gasket, the number that comes to mind for this setup in the MrGasket brand is a 121..I think.. one the biggest rectangle ports they make for the old style Chevy heads. the one that failed was a plain gray gasket that I sprayed with a high tack sealer both sides, I also painted the head and intake surfaces with high tack from a can. live and learn..
