After having a '32 grille on the front of my roadster for 20 years I want to change it by using a grille that has been hanging on my wall for a long time. I want the new grille to lean back like the windshield does and to be something like the grilles on old race cars. In trying to get the proper height and angle of the new grille, I ran a string along the side of the car, parallel to the lines on the top of the door. I am thinking that any line above this string (like the hood top) needs to fall as it moves forward. And any line below the string (like the frame rail) needs to rise as it moves forward, with all these lines meeting at some imaginary point out in front of the car. I'm wondering if this is a good way to get the lines right or if there is another, better way that gets the visual part of the car to be right. Thanks for any thoughts you might have.
English based Riley...sometimes things do work despite continental manufacturing divides...I think it looks awesome...
I'm with you on the grille having the same "slant" as the windshield frame, much better side profile. You seem to have it well under control.
I use the fifty foot method, roll it outside, stare at it from fifty feet. Looks totally different than it does in the shop.
28/29 have a shell that closely matches the height of the new/old addition and this flows with your windshield choice as eluded, so that saying...what is it?...go with the flow.
What a great looking grille. This will set this apart from the rest. I love the deuce grilles but that is cool!.
I agree with the 50 foot view suggestion and I would add from multiple angles as well. Definitely a cool shell to make your car unique. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
These grill shells aren’t expensive in the U.K. Just bidding on a couple now Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Interesting. Are you doing a restoration or using them on a hot rod? I think the grille has beautiful shapes.
Looks great Howard! Your car looked amazing before, but this looks super cool and different! Change is good!
I rolled it outside yesterday and made a quick hood using some plywood strips and black plastic. I tried different angles for the grille but I think this is the best one. I also checked it with and without the top.
