    you didn't brace the body before cutting the top off?

    ouch! just noticed that! :eek:

  8. Brent has been doing this for a long time. He is featured a few times in the Tex Smith chop top book. We discussed bracing before we started and he felt very confident that it wouldn't be required. If I was doing it on my own without the help of a professional I would have braced it. I do trust him and his decision even though others may not agree.
    I will have progress pics this weekend.

    Just as a side note...while at Gene Winfield's class we chopped a top and he chose not to brace it. Not to say that these two are right in all their decisions but knowing both of them they know how to turn out a car!

    Thanks again for all the responses.

    Where did you go to Gene's class at? Did he have one on this coast?

  10. Went out to his shop a couple years back. I actually built a porch on the front of his house while I was there. Had the best time of my life. He's a genuine man.

    Hey, sorry I never got back--just saw this thread pop back up and checked it out again. As far as I know we never met...I just happened to stumble over those rings on ebay and knew exactly where they were going. They were listed as being off a '50 ford, but I know that's not the case--I'm thinking maybe early/mid-50's Caddy, but I can't be sure. BTW--I'm liking the new haircut...these tops look so much better once they've been hammered. And, your engine bay is one of the slides in my screensaver.

  24. Just an update.
    Brent and I toyed with some '51 Buick trim I had laying around;

    He also patched a small hole in the floor that turned out incredible. I have a really cool set of turn signal pods that I'm using as taillights. We are filling the original taillight location and mounting the pods to the bumper. It should turn out pretty cool. He started on the garnish molding and should have it completed real soon. He spray bombed the bare metal to see how it looks one color.

    Just thought I would share.

    I'm enjoying this build .The side trim affords a certain degree of
    elegance . You appear to have a real classic beauty in the making.

    Lookin' good, BK. I think the Buick trim needs the chrome rocker trim and lakes pipe removed to make it the focal point, otherwise, too much going on between the fenders.... See you @ Charlotte if not before. vic

  29. Lakes are definatly coming off.

    Thanks guys.

  30. wow - can't wait to see that trim on there. That really makes it a whole nither car

    WHAT do you mean the lakes are coming off??? What are we going to drag around the track in APRIL????
