Generator to alternator jump???

    Need a little kick in the brain here. Can someone refresh my memory about jumping a generator car with an alternator car. Is it going to cause damage or something? Thanks ya'll. Aman.
     
  2. Never thought about that. I figured if they are both 12volt you're good.

    As long as the polarity is the same, no.

    Exactly! There are 12V pos ground cars out there, not many but English cars are/were pos ground systems. MG's that had generators are 12 v pos ground as are Nash Metropolitans. Bet you didn't know that. Same for 6v cars, most were pos grounds.

    I did not know that d2. Thanks ya'll for the input. The cars in question are both 12v neg ground GM models, one gen. and one alt., of course so we should be good to go but it's always better to ask first. After the wiring harness is smoke'n is a little too late. ;)
