I need some help from guys who know gassers. I have the opportunity to buy a 1939 Chrysler Royal that was being built in the gasser style. The car has no race history at all. The gentleman building it passed away from cancer. I would finish it in the style it has now but have no idea what it is worth as is and I don't want to over pay. The body is fairly solid with some small rust holes in the driver's floor and inner rocker. There are some normal dents and dings and it is in primer. The car has a speedway gasser front axle kit just tacked in the car with no steering at all. The rear suspension consists of chassis engineering parallel leaf springs with a 9" rear housing that is a core and no type of traction bar at all. There is a core 283 small block chevy with a core th350 trans in the car that is sitting on taked in mounts. There is no fuel system, brake system or cooling system at all with it. It looks like most of the trim is in the trunk. There are no gauges or steering column but there are 2 mid 60's impala bucket seats that are usable for seats. So it is a 39 chrysler body with a new front axle kit, some rear leaf springs, it does have a new tunnel ram on the core motor with carbs and some finned valve covers and the wheels and tires in the picture and that is about it. What would be a good value on this big of a project. I think it would be cool to finish the car as it looks. Just get it running and driving and make some noise. The guy who started the car was a good friend of my pops and I remember him having this car when I was a little kid and this was as far as it ever got. Thanks Tim, here are a few pictures of how it currently sits.
well, a lot depends how much you love the car. is that a make/model you have always wanted? you would get "dare to be different" points if you did buy it. you may not know the value now but, you can kind of figure out how much to finish depending on what you envision in your minds eye. to me with so much left to do will not be cheap.
Dare to be different is fine...but if it was a willys or other desirable gasser candidate, add another zero to the price.
Well there's about $1,500.00 in wheels and tires. Some Fab work that none of witch is done. Some Motor Iron that you probably won't use and the body and trim Might all be there. You won't know that for sure till after paint and you need it right now. Parts aren't going to be easy to find. I'd Offer $2,500.00. If you start at $3,500.00 witch is close to what it's worth, you will end up paying way more than what it's actually worth. Personally if I could buy it at $2,500 I'd hygrade all the good pieces and dump the body for maybe a Grand. I'd for sure take the first Cash offer and go find something else to add those Kool parts to. The Wizzard
The car does have a good clean title. I am glad I put something on here. My pops and I were thinking it was worth more than it is by the opinions on here. I know it would be difficult to sell being a chrysler if we ever wanted to sell.
Used to be one of those south of Waverly MN. I know it was sold a number of years back.Wonder if it's the same car.
39 Chrysler Gasser with a small block chevy and an automatic is a definate NEGATIVE. Now a 39 Chevy with a small block and you'd be alright,, well sorta alright. If your hearing the seller tell you how much has already been spent on it. I'll bet those numbers are fairly large. Ya never get it all back. The Wizzard
The car is 4 sale her in MN if anybody is interested contact me via PM and I can put you in contact with the owner. It is out of my reach and way more than the prices listed above.... Thanks for the help Tim
Sentiment gets in the way of logic, it happens. That car will never bring '37 Chevy, or Willys prices, if that's what the seller is expecting (dreaming).
I bet that it is. Full price for used parts. Full price for 1/8 completed tasks. Full price for unknown cores. Big money for a less desired car.
