  5. Ahotrod,
I think that you have probably hit on something that a lot of people have never really thought about. A lot of the time it was the guys who had small budgets that won because they knew about cars and wee hands on. I was reading an article the other day about this fella that built a cackle car that is a tribute to his old altered T roadster. in the article it is mentioned that at one time he traded into a digger and no one could figure out how to drive it or tune it. The altered was never driven by him or tuned by him, but it was nice and by then he had met up with some guys that knew cars probably because like a lot of us they had to.

Thanks Beaner, ...... The truth in the history lies with our older mentors, and I have tried to contact and sit with as many as I have been able to over the years, to see and hear first hand the truth.
One must understand that what was in the pages of magazines was but a very small sampling of what was really out there. There were thousands of these Hot Rod Drag cars all over America and Canada..... what we all need to be doing is asking to see the old Black-n-White Photos in the boxes and albums of anyone we meet that did any kind of racing or Hot Rodding..... because there in lies the true history of what we have become to love to much.

  20. Something I have been saying for a long time. Hotrodding was not little books, they only covered what was close to them as a rule. Look in old picture albums if you want to see hot rodding.

I was lucky the old man's shop was a constant freak show of the "Who's who" of hot rodding and motor cycle history. I never knew that they were anyone but my dad's friends. But they took a lot of time to talk to the skinny kid. When I got older I developed my own circle of friends, I didn't really get along with people my own age so they were all pretty much old guys.

LOL now I'm the old guy who would have figured.
I appreciate the pics by the way, I needed a little boost today.

Love this Coupe, note the extended frame and hood, headlights, exhaust dumping in front of the rear wheels, ... I'd bet it was street driven.

I hope that someone learns from this that there is no normal or formula that must be followed to build a true Hot Rod or Race Car. Many have fallen into the "Monkey-See-Monkey-Do" syndrome and are not digging into the real history for ideas and inspiration.
    Maybe......... this will enlighten some.

    Build it !
    Drive it !
    Race it !
....... just like our Father's and Grandfathers did.

Disclaimer: This is a recreation of Willie Borsch's AA/FA.
I know this is probably too new for many here but Mike Boyd is the only guy that can fill Willie Borsch's shoes, if youv'e not seen him handle this car, just youtube him.

p.s.-- If you think this isn't worthy for this thread; I won't be standing next to you when you tell Big Mike that!!

  26. Buddy I'll have my arm around you when I tell Big Mike. :D

I don't know about anyone else but I don't have any problems with the winged express original or otherwise. If I built an altered today ( which just may happen ya just never know) it would be built today not 50 years ago. ;)

  28. I think the 15 OZ coupe is iconic. I am not good with names but I always recognize that name and that is always the car that pips in my head when I hear it. I just wish I knew why it is called the 15 OZ Fuel coupe. ;)
