Question is, back in 1964 what was the type of fuel the BB/A Altereds running or could have ran ?? Thanks
Gasoline unless it was a fuel altered. All comp eliminator classes were gasoline. I know that people ran av gas and various mixtures as well.
Was know to add some toluene to pump gas to get the specific gravity up as close to the limit as possible. Usually didn't take much, maybe a quart in 5 gallons. Always passed during the Winter Nationals.
Same as today. Gasoline, methanol or nitro methane. Technology has created light years of performance improvements since 1964 but the combustibles have remained the same. Go figure!
There used to be a fuel (gas) called Cheaters delight that was sold by a speed shop in Fresno-was not supposed to be able to be detected-circa 1959-60. Don't know if it helped much though.
If we were planning to go to the drags, we would run a tank or 2 of Amoco White gas [said to be 100 octane] through the car in the days leading up to the day, then back to the cheap stuff after. Ralphie
