I dont know about over there, but here, that flip top cap for the tank wont get you thru the front gate. Figure out a way to lock the cap down for safety reasons.

Do stop welding on the front down tube and check the welder or fined the guy that did the main frame.

    I hope you do ;)
A friend of mine has been bying stuff for building a F.E.D, and then I started check what I had in my corners. And I had some parts to make this happen!
Sure it costs, but wtf, at some point I needed to start the projekt...

So the construction on the cap istnt enough?
Its hard to open as is...
Can you tell me more about this?

The guy who welded the main frame is going to weld the hole thing, Im just fit it together , maybe little to much..

He has a jig when he weld it together. Needs to be serios.

Hey all, thanks for all inputs and comments, It keeps it glowing!!!

Tank was behind seat and was never touched. Various impacts caused the cap to pop open. Driver survived although he still wears the scars and cannot count to 10 on his fingers. Mind you that this was the SAFER rear motor dragsters

Thanks dreracecar for making us aware;) Although we have passed tech with current flip top, I'm gone try to secure it not to open unintentionally.
I knew about the NHRA rule, so I had a spare threaded solid cap with me last time. But the issue with it, is it will not "breath". If I put a breather on the tank, it can also leak when up side down?

Safety is important....but some time it's hard to meet todays requirements without losing stance and the history;)

The rules we run under, are special made for vintage racing. That means that we can run some of the old chassis without modifying to much.

Race cars are not safe and will never be safe!

If you were to install a breather fitting on the tank and loop the hose up and then down to the bottom of the car, then upside down the end of the hose should be higher then the tank(dont anyone ask about the car being on it side--read first sentence) the question is would you rather have fuel dripping out a 3/8 hose opening or pouring out of 2 1/2" filler opening.

    Yeah, this breathing problem..
Maybe you could have a this old "handpump" to make overpressure, the you dont need the breathing function right? you could have the threaded tight cap..

Maybe Im out sailing but, sounds right?

    Many thanks

Cant you just install one of the roll over valves?

  15. my current moon threaded cap has a ball valve built in it and its vented....
however had to rethread the cap as the threads were too tight from Moon......

Racers stopped using those for years before spools were even thought of.

Why don't you save yourself a pain in the ass, and get yourself a 9 inch ford or a 8 3/4 mopar, or a olds /pontiac,, something you can get parts for unless your building this for display, but if you plan on racing it use a better rearend, the object of the game is to go racing not sit in the pits with a broke rearend you can't get parts for,,,,Just my 2 cents,, Tim Jones

I was wondering of update the inside, with newer ford axles, and buy open shaft kit, and use MW couplers instead of U joint

    Try www.wintersperformance.com

They make spools for non QC banjo rear ends in about five sizes -CALL THEM, that way you can size what you have to what they (if) make
